I Quit a 3-pack Habit

I was a dedicated three-pack-a-day smoker for over 20 years. I was an expert at both quitting and finding excuses to start up again. Thanks to my Joye 510s from mypvshop, I quit smoking on 11/10/2010. My smoker's hack cleared up in a month... both my hair and my clothes no longer smell like an ashtray... and, while e-cigs are not cheap, they are FAR cheaper than buying three cartons of cigs every month. Also, once you determine what you want and decide to invest and are stocked, subsequent orders are smaller and affordable. It takes a while to find a favorite flavor, but the bottles were cheap and the taste-testing was fun. Pear is my personal favorite. ;-)

I wish I had invested in a starter pack for each brand, though. That way, I could determine what brand worked best for me, rather than relying on a friend's recommendation. I have finally joined the forum (didn't know it was there) so I'm hoping to find some recommendations on other brands. The Joye 510 batteries don't last long enough when traveling, so I want to check out brands with both longer atomizer and battery life. The battery changing and atomizer care/exchange does get a little old. BUT...it's still better than smoking tobacco!

Believe me. If a dedicated smoker like me can quit, anyone can. I never thought I'd be able to quit, but I did! YAY ME

If you read through every threads on this New Member section, there are a lot of people asking about a recommended kit. If you love 510, then why don't you get an ego kit, get the 900mah kit or greater. Ego kit are quite cheap compared to most of the mods people raving about. To me, 900mah last 10 hours each. And believe you are using cartridges & atties right now. You should try some boge 2.0ohm cartomizers if you haven't. Cartomizers are disposable cartridge + atomizer built in one package, and it's cheaper ($0.75-$2 each)than an atomizer, although it's not as durable as an atomizer+cartridge combo. You'll just throw it away when the taste get funky, and get a new carto instead of cleaning your atomizer.

Hey welcome to the freedom of vaping. Wow quiting 3 packs a day with just a cig sized 510 and atty. That is great. You must be carrying a lot of batteries and juice around with you :0) you are in for a lot of info, in site and temptation here in ECF. It is such a great place to know what is going on and available out there. Enjoy and welcome.

Grats!!

For 510 threading

Joye 510 mega xl batteries are longer (still slim) and last 60-70% longer (280mah vs 180mah) and I recommend manuals (sealed on the threaded end so cartomizer leaks won;t hurt them, you can use a drip tip on the atty and just clean up leaks, easier to get a good hit)

Then there are LOTS of long charge 510 threaded devices starting with Ego and Riva 510 (Riva 510 is a popular Ego clone but if you buy them at Liberty-Flights.com they are slightly higher voltage than Ego. Press the 20% off upper left front page there, then look at the lowered prices. My Riva 510 Lite Bundle of 2 complete 750mah Riva 510's cost under $30 there). beyond that, there are 510 threaded mods that use removable industrial AA-shape batteries charged in a separate charger. These run from very inexpensive 3.7v box mods to fancy vartiable voltage devices to juice boxes that hold a bottle of juice and more.

The 450mah+ models can also use low resistance atomizers and cartomizers for a hotter hit (LR parts also use the battery charge faster). Ego and Riva have their own fast charger cable the slim 510 batteries cannot use, and slim 510 cannot use LR parts (these things can damage slim batteries).

---

If you want to stick with slim ecigs ut want to try something else, a popular choice with a different threading (not 510) is a KR808D-1 like SmokelessImage Volt and Vapor4Life.com - these are 2-piece models 3.7v (a bit more voltage than 510 and Ego) and the standard/78mm battery size is 280mah at Vapor4Life and 320mah for the SmokelessImage model. Vapor4Life manuals have a larger button and are almost totally sealed. SmokelessImage Volt manuals (available in some colors) has a tiny button and a totally sealed threaded end.

    in a cave, eh?
    That's awesome.

If you're looking to step up to a new system, the aforementioned Riva 510 is a good system. It's about the size of a Sharpie (and similar size-wise to an eGo).

Also nice is the 18650 E-Power. It's much bigger, though. It's about the size of a large cigar. Possibly way more battery power than you need, but you'll probably not miss making runs to the charger. :)

Congratulations from yet another 3 PAD (on week ends) smoker.

I will Echo (no pun intended) what most others are recommending. An Ego/Riva 510 kit from E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings

Also, definitely try a 5 pack of cartomizers. Recommend Boge brand, 2.0 ohm. Cartos hold more juice than the atty/cart set-up.
The 2.0 ohm will give you a warmer vapor and more vapor and taste. But they also use juice a bit faster than standard cartos. That's liquid juice and battery juice.

For a standard resistance cartomizer (about 3.0 ohms) I recommend the Genuine Joye 510 cartos from Welcome litecigusa.com - BlueHost.com

They are a bit more difficult to fill (syringe required) but give fantastic vapor and flavor. I think they rival the Boge 2.0 ohms in that area.

Just a note. If you go with the larger Ego/Riva batteries you will need a new charger, so you might as well go with a complete starter kit.

    Welcome and congratulations!

I'm a n00b here myself but my current weapon of choice is a 900mAh eGO-sized battery and an eGO mega dual coil cartomizer (you'll see them called EMDCC here sometimes). Very satisfying.

You can find the stuff here -

MadVapes 510 Ego Kit with Carrying Case

eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer (might want to get a few of these)

Add a wall wart and a couple drip tips and you're all set :)

    Again, welcome.

Wow, I can't believe you have been doing the atomizer/cart thing for this long. You deserve a prize for patience as well as a successful quit. I upgraded to an EGO and Boge cartomizers within two weeks. Very happy with my choice. An EGO bat lasts about 10 hours depending on how much you vape, and the cartomizers need filled, then topped off every hour or so with a few drops. So much easier. After a week or 10 days, you throw the whole thing away and put on a fresh one (or you can clean them and get another week or so out of one). Recommend an EGO or Riva with the cartomizers. It will change your life almost as much as vaping has!

More congrats, from a 2.5 - 3 pack a day smoker, now allowing myself 2 cigs a day if I feel like smoking them - sometimes I just forget.

As for being good at quitting, I have two memorable quits:

    1. I already had a keen sense of smell, but it came back with a vengeance! Standing next to my car, I could separately smell the tires, the gas, the oil, the road dirt, etc. I could smell the rest of the world that same way, and it stinks! STINKS!! That made me feel sorry for dogs. I started back up because I was miserable in that reeking world.

    2. I just wanted to strangle everyone I saw. The receptionist at work asked how it was going and I told her. She said "Smoke! Smoke!", so I did.
