I think I found out what's been going on with my mini

For some time I've been having an intermittent problem with my mini failing to fire. I could usually make it fire again by tapping it or pulling the battery and putting it back in or cleaning the firing pin or really pushing the button down but, it's been getting worse. I know most of you wouldn't do this but, I'm a little crazy this way. I finally took the whole thing apart and got the firing pin out. The pin has cut the insulating tube covering it up by the atomizer. It really wasn't visible until it was disassembled. I'm pretty sure there was an intermittent short. It was pretty nasty in there. So everything is soaking in alcohol right now.

I'm probably not going to get away with slapping some electrical tape on there. Shrink tubing might work though. Any other suggestions on what I should use to replace/repair it?

Hello MickeyRat The insulator is to keep the positive plate from making contact with the screw that holds the black delrin insert in place .There has never been a short from this not one case. The intermittent connection issues chances are could have been fixed with a good cleaning if a cleaning doesn't work take a small file to the very point of the positive contact .If a mod is run dirty long enough there can be a build up that is hard to remove with standard cleaning . If you need spare parts pm me

Rob, thanks for the info about the insulator. If that's what it's for, then there's not an issue with it. I thought I'd found the problem. I'll get it cleaned up and back together. Maybe that's all it needs. There's really not a lot to go wrong in there.

Naalox and cleaning battery tops and the pin hasn't helped. I only took it apart because it's gotten to the point that I'm getting in the habit of putting it to my ear to see if it's firing before I take a hit.

I have to admit that I couldn't do without it long enough to really dig into it before. However, my VV Woodvil is working perfectly. So, now I have the opportunity.

I have the same problem and do the same things including holding up to my ear to see if it fires. I keep my Grand clean and have filed the firing pin and the pin on top of the battery but I still have intermittent firing. Oh Well.

Well I just got all cleaned up and back together. Rob must have some pretty nifty equipment or teenie weenie hands to assemble as many as he does. It wasn't too terrible but, I'd never be able to put together as many as he does. It's working so I did something right.

The firing pin had some crusty stuff up where it's attached to the atomizer connector. Maybe that was the problem. I'll have to use it for a day or two to know for sure.

So you have some nifty equipment. :)

Why do I get the sense that you were expecting me to send this thing to you in a ziploc bag? :)

Well I took it to work today and left my Woodvil at home. All I can say for sure is that I didn't make it any worse. It might be a little better but not a lot. The thing is that it'll go for a couple hours and no problems. Then I'll have problems with it for an hour or two.

The only thing I'm doing that most others don't is I'm using a 901 on an Avid Vapor stealth adapter. That set up works fine on the Woodvil.

When you have had enough toss it in a padded envelope and send it to me . The 901 should work fine . I am happy to help

I thought I'd let everyone, especially Rob, know how this turned out. I contacted Rob for some parts and he sold me a rebuild kit for $15.

  • Two (mistake?) of the screw things on the inside of the atty connector.
  • The tube the screw thing screws into already in the new silicon tubing.
  • Eight or nine insulators for the inside of the atty connector.
  • A firing pin with insulator.
  • A new battery spring
  • A new button
  • A new bottle cap

The only thing I hadn't taken out before was the insulator in the atomizer. It came out and went in easy enough. The new tubing was bigger than the original equipment that's probably why the new cap was included. I took it apart and put in the new parts. The hardest part was getting that new tubing through the new cap.

I've been vaping it for over 9 hours now and it's fired every time!!! I do wonder when I'll quit putting it to my ear though. :D

For $20 I could have sent it back to Reo and got the same thing done but, if you're cheap, don't want to do without it that long, or just like doing things yourself (me); this works. :D
