Another new member here. The last 8 hours have really opened my eyes to the e-Cig craze. I have known a few people that have used them with mixed results but after hearing of yet another success story, my wife and I have decided to explore this more seriously. Right now, I'm just kind of exploring the forum, looking at various vendors and trying to figure out what would be best for the wife and I.

We both smoke around 1-1/2 to 2 packs a day but they are "Ultra Lights" so I'm not sure where that puts us on the nicotine strength. I'd like to keep the startup costs low but I still want to be sure we get everything we need. I looked at the Smoker Ace KR-808D that Zeybrin recommended in several threads but I see it does not have the atomizers included and I'm not sure which ones would fit it properly. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd be more than happy to take a look.

Right now, I'm going to bed. I've been up for 23 hours straight now and my brain is getting bogged down with too much info. I really thought this would be a lot simpler.

The atomz are the atomizers... thus the name :p that is what's so newbie friendly about them.. You just buy the Kit.. buy the atomz and go.

The Atomz are whats known as Cartomizers. They are atomizers that have a fairly high capacity cartridge built into them.

Doesn't get much simpler that that now does it? haha

welcome Willie -

i and others responded to a couple of similar posts this evening....all about choosing a good make/model of e-cig to get started with...check out those threads here:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/111386-switching-back-e-cigarettes.html

and here:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...1414-soon-starter-here-need-some-insight.html

It can be really overwhelming at first, but just keep this in mind...even though there are like a gazillion different options/routes you can take for your first e-cig, you've already done the very best thing you could have to ensure a good decision - you came to this forum : ) - i'm far from an expert, but there are a lot of true experts here that can give you some really good advice, and the truth is that regardless of who's advice you decide to go with, you'll have a good experience with vaping

check those 2 threads out....i personally started with a JoyeTech 510 starter kit, and it's a very very good unit to start with....but there are many other good ones as well : )

one thing - if you guys were knocking down 1 1/2 to 2 packs per day, you might look at the JoyeTech Ego, or something similar...larger battery that lasts quite a bit longer than the 510 (more power too...warmer vapor...stronger "hit")

I agree with Frisky, I was pretty hard up on the Ace because of what the users said they wanted. However the eGo (Joye/Janty) is a really good starter device with superior battery life and it uses the 510 atomizer, which happens to be my atty of choice.

Plus the 510 atomizer connection is also compatible with an awesome atomizer the 306, which makes for a great Low resistance Atomizer that switches flavors easily and produces awesome flavor/throat hit simulating High Volt vaping.

I suggest something that resembles an actual analog, especially to start out. I use an e510 (universal standard 3-piece e-cig model number) from heaven-gifts. That's my first device so far. It works really well.

Their starter kits are $33.00. You get 2 units, a charger and some (5) prefilled carts.

Since shipping will factor in and is expensive, I recommend trying to spend at least one month's analog smoking budget up front on equipment and liquid. If you buy intelligently (not incurring multiple shipping charges by buying too little equipment and having to place multiple orders to get what you should have gotten in one go) you can both knock your cost down to less than 15% the cost of smoking. In a month everything pays for itself and you are down to buying juice alone.

I would buy now, and I would buy as much hardware as you can while it is still cheap. This market is growing like wildfire. The prices canNOT stay this cheap much longer.

I'd also suggest getting higher nicotine than you need. You can always cut it but should be unnecessary because your habit will level off sharply and appropriately. I use super high nic juice but within a week or so I fell into a nice equilibrium. Good luck. Remember what I said.

Hi Willie, Welcome! Fellow Missourian here. There is going to be a Vapefest here in St. Louis on the 20th and 21st of this month. This is a great opportunity to see product up close and learn about the differences in equipment (and probably get some free samples :)). It's difficult to wrap your head around all the information here, I know, so a face to face would be invaluable. In the meantime, if you're anxious to get started, I have been very happy with Madvapes. I have gotten a couple of kits from them that have worked out great and you can't beat the prices. Shipping took about 3 days. Good Luck

Welcome Willie, I got family in Rolla MO.

An atomizer is part of a 3 piece e-cig such as a 510 model. A cartomizer is part of a 2 piece e-cig such as a KR808D1.

Here is a list of some vendors and their discount codes to look through. You may want to save it in your favorites for reference. Link : Electronic Cigarette Coupon Code Master List - Electronic Cigarette Forum

I always want the new to make an informed decision so I advise you check out the ECF Library and then head over to the social groups and ECF Library Annex.

And just remember, whether the road is smooth or bumpy, it's worth the effort in the end.

Consider me your recycling center for Njoy Pro, Smoking Everywhere Gold, Cloud 9, Smoke 51 Trio, and DSE103 useless batteries.
Other hardware if it’s still usable.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions so far! From what I've been reading here and other places, it seems like this is a very personal choice and everyone seems to have their favorites.

One thing I'm not figuring out is the difference between an atomizer and a cartomizer?

Atomizer+cart= ball and powder

cartomizer (nicotine cartridge w/built-in atomizer)= modern day bullet

I'm going to respectfully disagree with this. I did this and no more than a week later was using an eGo. The batteries that resemble an analog have terrible life. You'll be charging constantly. Thankfully, I was able to return the first PV I bought and get my eGo. Fast forward a month later and even my eGo sits in a box as a backup device while I puff away on my first mod and await delivery of my second.

While an analog shaped ecig can help in those first few days of making the switch, if you stick with vaping you'll eventually be upgrading to something with a bigger battery. The eGo offers a nice compromise in size, simplicity, and cost for a new vaper.

Thanks again!

With what I have so far, this is what I am looking at most closely:

Mad Vapes said:
510 Mega Cartomizer Kit
These are nice mega batteries, .5" shorter than a standard mega battery but with the power of a full size mega battery.

These kits come with 2.5 ohm cartomizers that produce plumes of flavorful vapor.

Each kit includes:
2 Sealed 510 Mega Batteries(280 mah) with Red LED
5 2.5 ohm 510 Refillable Cartomizers
1 10 Ml Marl 24mg e-liquid
1 510 USB Charger

It appears that this would be a good starting point for the wife and I. Simple, inexpensive and a good dose of nicotine. Yay or nay?

Looks like a good starter kit. I'd suggest getting some liquid in a lower strength as well in case 24mg is too much for you. Vaping 24mg all day led me to nicotine OD when I first started.
Really?? Wow.
OK, thanks for that tip. I will look into some more moderate strengths as well.

My wife really wants to explore the different flavors. I just want something that doesn't taste like like somebody's .....

I think you and your wife have made a good choice, both with the vendor MadVapes (use discount code strell) and gear. The only thing I would add is additional cartomizers and additional batteries. The reason for this is that you'll only get (maybe, depends on how many vapes you take) 5-6 hours of use out of each battery before it needs to be recharged and each cartomizer will last (usually less than the battery life, depends on how many vapes you take) maybe 4-5 hours before they need to be refilled. This way you'll have a battery charged up (1 extra each for you and your wife) and ready when the battery dies.

Another thing to note is that vaping is not like cigarettes. It's a different way to get nicotine and is not as efficient as the tar filled burning tobacco you're trying to leave behind. In my case it seems to take about 4-5 vapes of 25mg/ml juice to equal one cig drag. So to equal the amount of nicotine you were getting, you may be vaping more than you smoked. Also, the 10ml of juice will probably not last more than a week between 2 people. But each of us is different and results may vary. Good luck and happy vaping.

OK, thanks! And thanks for that discount code!
I was actually going to get a kit for each of us and that would give us each two batteries. If two of them don't get us through the day, we're vaping too much. :D

Welcome Willie! I'm new to this as well as I've only been vaping around 12 days. I have not smoked 535 analogs (cigarettes). From what I've seen thus far and used, there is no set rule of thumb with e-cigs. I have the Joye 510 and may/may not switch somewhere down the road. I spent $134.00 on all of my supplies (and I got the whole system with backups) and have almost got my money back from not smoking analogs. Sometimes the 'cheapest' isn't always the answer. Sometimes the most expensive isn't the way to go either. I've always gone in the middle of the road. My e-cig is 3 pieces, with an atomizer and I like the button. There is no hardened rule of e-cigs, but I was a 2 pk a day person....maybe + a couple. I got my husband to do the web search for me and it is quite trying, to say the least. I have one red tipped and one purple....just to be different. (Secretly, I should have gotten all red tipped.)

This website is a very important factor in your decision. There are so many people who want to help you in so many ways. They even have a chat room, which I find to be rather amusing....just folks having fun. But I like chats, however, not everyone does.

I wish you well in your search. Remember, you can always trade up.:thumb:
