Probably nobody here is all that interested, but I thought I'd update every now and then to sort of document what I'm learning.
I've gotten lots of goodies to play with. A little breadboard came today and an ac-dc variable voltage adapter thing. The book tells me to cut the plug off the voltage adapter, separate the two sides of the cord, and solder some solid core wire on the ends so I can use it to power the breadboard. So I did that, and it worked fine. That was kind of exciting! I got a mixed bag of led lights on ebay, some resistors, potentiometers, transformers, capacitors, etc... They haven't all come in yet, but I'm looking forward to doing some of the experiments in the book. My 7 year old son enjoyed melting solder (lead free) with the soldering iron.
I've been looking at the milo dna 20/30 build that mamu posted at some point. That is my ultimate goal right now, but I'm not ready for that yet. By the time I have learned enough dna 30 will probably be old news. Lol.
