I have been making micro coils. I didn't think short tails on wicks made any sense. Its not intuitive to have short tails vs. long tails. Being stubborn I had long tails that wrapped around the posts and laid on the base of my RM2. It seems to make sense to have more juice ready to vape and less squonking required. So I've been setting up my attys like this for a long time.

A few days ago I thought I would give short tails a try. Wow. I was so wrong. I am blowing larger clouds, the vape seems "cleaner" and I am squonking about the same as I did before. Live and learn. And the cotton balls I have should last a few hundred years longer. :2c:

Yep, I hear ya LT.

Extra wick does hold more juice, but that's all it does - hold it. It's not smart enough to store the juice out there on the fringes, monitor wick wetness at the coil and at just the right time, send juice marching toward the coil :)

I also think it may hinder the vape because all that juice will SLOWLY disperse (or be sucked) to extreme dry areas of the wick, like in the coil, but the juice that is sucked over there has been cooked aplenty, so flavor will be off.

Additionally, I believe that excess juice in the chamber (in excess wick) coils vapor much like a lakeside breeze at a much smaller scale.

You are spot on with this thread my man :)

Does this apply to silica wicks as well?

I've tried cotton, but inevitably, I scorch it (VERY long hits), so I use only silica, and yes, I find the vape is noticably better with shorter "tails". I also notice little, if any, difference in how frequently I have to squonk with long vs short tails. I *do* agree with what Supe said about the longer tails allowing the juice to stay in there and "cook" a bit, so I'm convinced: Short tails = better vape.

Is there a good place to source the XC-132? I'd like to find something in larger quantities than one foot.

You might want to bookmark this page and check it from time to time.

Materials - RBA Supplies

They clean the XC and "treat it" (which is longer and hotter than just cleaning it).

They're all out of stock, and only offer 116. I emailed them asking about 132, as I am interested in giving XC a shot, and they replied that they do plan of offering 132 in the future.

Otherwise outside of SnG Vapor, the 132 is a Unicorn.

Been using this coil, with short tails, for 24hrs now, still can't get over the difference it makes
I usually don't bother rewicking a coil, cos it never seems to tste as good as a new one,
I put a short wick into a coil that was nearly a week old, & the taste is amazing!
Once again I'd like to thank everyone, for "enlightening" me
Truly amazing

Mesh on the outside ekowool on the inside?

yep I loved the use of the ekowool but it gave me a scratchy throat so I figured if I wrapped it inside the mesh the mesh would act like a screen and well its perfect IMO I think I'm running on near 2 months on one now :) every couple few weeks I do a good water rinse and a dry burn and thats it
