So after reading a bit about "the kick", I got to thinking about drop in modules. How hard would it be to get a simple booster/regulating drop in module for the icon? I wouldn't want something as advanced as "the kick". I would want something that just boosts the voltage to what my icon already runs at when the battery is fresh off the charger. I would basically want the same wattage/voltage everytime, so it would need a dial. Is this possible?

The drop in module would be great, because if it brakes, I still have an icon. I just have to pull out a bad circuit board. I imagine it would be way smaller than "the kick", but I might still need to get an extention sleeve. Ideas?

Neat idea, but not really possible. Boost modules and any sort of power regulation systems would require more space than an Icon has available. The Icon tube was designed around an unprotected 14500 battery. The tube doesn't have enough room to handle a protected battery. Even if you could get the diameter of the system down enough to fit in the tube (say by cannibalizing an ego booster) you would probably only have room for a 14250 battery. That would limit you to about 1 to 2 hrs of use before the battery was discharged.

The Icon is still a great little mod (I have two and use them frequently) but it doesn't really have much room for upgrading as yet.

It can use a protected battery. I use aw IMR batteries (safe chemistry, no protective circuit), or the tenergy protected 14500. You are correct in that it doesn't fit the aw protected li-ion battery.

So, if I wanted a booster/regulating circuit I would need an extension sleeve as well as cannabilize an ego battery?

Theoretically, yes. It should work. It would probably be much easier to get an eGo booster and use a small 510-510 extension to connect it though. That way you wouldn't have to make an extension sleeve and the booster could keep it's knob/switch, otherwise you would have to either set it by disassembling the unit or find some way to incorporate the adjustment knob into the new extension.
