I missed out last night, so I want to be sure to get this one in early tonight!! :)

Even though my birthstone is Sapphire, this one has always attracted me more... maybe because of it's rarity... but also because it is the California State Gemstone!! It appears in only a few locations throughout the World, and CA is the only place where gemstone quality can be found...

Spacekitty that Benitoite is beautiful. I'd never heard of it before.

And I'll share one of my local favorites for Saturday. We have a lot of agate around here, but in an area about 90 miles NW of me you can find Ellensburg Blue Agate, awesome in agate form, beautiful in jewelry :)

DeviantDe I never knew that Ellensburg had stones there. I used to go through there all the time years ago. Stopping there on the way to Yakima. There is a lot of beauty in this thread. I have been learning a lot from here, so cool. So on 10/20/12 I think I'll go with the Blue Moonstone.

After reading Racehorse's entry, I had to do some research to find out what my lucky stone was. Apparently, it is agate. Agate comes in a large variety of colors so I found an example of some green agate since it is my favorite. I like the idea of my "lucky stone" having so many color options though.

Mystic Topaz

Colorful Mystic Topaz is the product of a high tech enhancement process that is stable and permanent. 'Mystic Topaz' is ''real" Topaz that is coated to add color. Much of the Topaz that is found in nature is in fact colorless, or 'white'. To add color, Topaz can be coated with an ultrathin layer (film), which is similar to the coatings used on camera lenses. Such coatings can add a particular color to the treated stones, or, In the case of 'Mystic Topaz', the coating creates interference effects, displaying a rainbow effect of various colors. This effect may give the Topaz an artificial appearance (see photos), which sometimes causes confusion about the nature of the material.
