I'm using cotton. I have a 18490 battery and the wick is wet. It's a 4 wrap not sure on the ohms exactly. How should I push them? Towards the posts? Side to side?

correct me if im wrong here because i am still new at this but you should...
1. get an ohm meter (safety, knowledge of builds without guessing, etc)
2. i think if you are getting a hot spot, its most likely how your coil is wrapped so just keep tinkering til you find a good spot or find a youtube video and try to copy it to the t (this was my method til i get my ohm meter in)
3. you say its a burnt taste so its either dry wick or too hot of a coil. trial and error to fix or post pics. that may be helpful for anyone to help

I'm assuming you're using a mechanical mod. I don't know how much you know about this stuff, so I'm going to quickly go over the basics of battery safety 101. If you know all this, just skip it ;). If you don't know the resistance of the coils you don't know how many amps you're drawing from the battery. Draw too much and the battery will start heating up, so watch for that and if it happens stop using it immediately until you get it sorted out. Get it too hot and it will vent, which is chemically nasty and can be physically dangerous. Hopefully you are using IMR or hybrid batteries that do not vent with flame. If that happens and the e-cig's vent holes don't vent gas fast enough the e-cig can turn into something similar to a pipe bomb. What batteries do you have? Manufacturer, model number and mAh is good. If you need help with any of this, just ask :thumb:

A few more questions. Are you setting up with dual coils? What gauge wire are you using? I know you don't know the resistance of the coil, but that's another thing that affects this too. If you put too much cotton into the coil, you'll choke the wick it and get burnt hits. If your air holes are too small for the power applied, or if your wire is too thin for the power applied, you'll get burnt hits. Have a wire touch the deck underneath it and you'll have hot spot that will make burnt hits, but you should see that when you test fire it.

If you can take a picture of the setup and post that it would really help us help you.

Vape safe!

I'm using efest18490 batteries,28gage with dual coils. I'm about to start tinkering with it now. I'll let you guys know. And I'm going to get a reader as well. Thank you all.
Edit: I spaced them out and moved them down. They appear to be working now.

The Efest 18490's have an amp limit of 8.8A. You'll draw that at about 0.45 ohms taking voltage drop into account, but I wouldn't use that battery at less than about 0.7 ohms. With dual 28 gauge, 4 wrap coils you could be below 0.45 ohms. It all depends on the inside diameter of the coils.

I suggest you stop using this setup until you get a DMM. If you continue to use it, watch out for the battery heating up.
