Im not sure where else to put a question seeing how im new. So I hope this gets answered. I am a bit lost on the whole cartridge + eliquid thing. If they all take a cartridge then why is the eliquid even around? I saw the video about topping off so I assume its for that. But how would you take one of the yummy flavors like cheesecake if im just topping off one that tastes like a normal cig? Are there "blank" cartridges or something? Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.

There are blank carts for some models. You can also take a cart that has regular flavor in it. Pull out the stuffing, and squish it with a paper towel or tissue to get out the juice. Then place the stuffing back in the cart and fill it with a new flavor. Mainly the juice is around for the cost savings, and to allow a wide variety of flavors.

Because a cartridge doesn't last very long on its own. The filter material inside the cartridge will get dry fairly quickly at one end (of the material) as you 'smoke' the liquid out of it. If you 'smoke it dry' you won't be very satisfied and you can damage your atomizer. It saves on cartridge costs if you "top up" the cartridge with a little more liquid and keep using it.

Also some people 'smoke' without using filter material at all by dripping the liquid directly into the atomizer - just a few drops. That's in one of those videos.

Thank you all for your answers. Also, I plan on getting the DSE 103. I am getting it mainly because of the price and the price of the carts. I am buying 4 of them for family members. I dont think they would take the first step in buying an ecig so im covering that in hopes it will inspire them to smoke healthier and eventually quit. I am wondering if this is a good product or if there is something else around that price that I shuold purchase instead?

Well - the DSE 103 can give off very good vapour but imho the battery life is poor and the carts are very small, which means lots of topping up. If it was me I would go for an Evo or a penstyle to start with - the Evo if you want something that looks like a cigarette. It is more fiddly to top up than some but this is easy once you get the hang of it and is more than compensated for by the wonderful battery life. Others will suggest a 901 but the battery life ain't great on those. Just my 2 p..
