Hi guys. I recently got one. I have tried several of the popular builds using ekowool and cotton/micro coil.

First off I just can't seem to get this down, and I know it isn't hard. I follow the vids, my stuff looks like theirs, ohms are good, etc.. But I seem to have two problems with every build I make. First is that if I raise the wattage beyond 7.5, everything tastes like burnt metal. I just don't get it and it is a pain after you filled the tank, and realize after 15 min this blows.

Second is even if I think I have a great build going and keep volts around 3.5-4 and watts down low like 7.5 randomly I get a crap burnt metal taste. I just don't get it. I can't seem to get it right. No matter what build I do, how careful I am, how good it is at first, before I can get 15 min I get this problem. I see these vids of guys making coils and hitting them at 10 and 11 watts at least. In order to get 15 min out of a build I have to settle for subpar vapor, etc.

I will be the first to admit it is me doing something wrong, but I have followed several excellent build videos and have the process down as far as I can tell, identical. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

P.S. Does anyone know where to get the green bottle tips that fill the kayfun so nicely?

First, that burnt taste is acrolein. It's burnt PG, and seriously evil. Look it up on Wikipedia before reading the rest.

Your coil is dry, likely because of wicking issues. I blamed the KFL+ for a full week before finding the problem. In the end, I found juice was getting to the wick; the wick was wicking juice; but it just wasn't getting to the coil. How can that be, you might well ask.

The coil was too tight, and bending the wick onto the deck was sharp enough to choke the hollow braid. Both worked to starve the coil of juice.

Start simple. A solid wick won't bend as sharply as hollow braid. Wrap more loosely. I stuffed solid silica into my braid, and wrapped on a paperclip wire to hold some space. My problem is solved.

If you're having problems with a micro coil and cotton, others will be able to help you with the clogging... Cotton in a sealed-for-the-duration device ain't for me. Complicated builds ain't for me.

Mine is a simple straight run of 3mm nonflammable wick, gently drooping over the edge down to the juice deck. I ordered a few feet of pre-stuffed Ekowool from Lightning Vapes last week. That'll set me up for a good part of next year. Vaping very nicely, now on its third tank.
