Hello everyone, just started my researchs on vaping, to help my father quit smoking. I have never smoked or vaped in my life, but i think its awesome how vaping helps quitting analogs and are a much healthier option, i always hated smokers since i was a child, can't stand the smell and it's really hard to breath near them.

I'm even thinking about vaping as a hobby, from time to time( without nicotine ).

English is not my main language so i hope everyone can understand. Thanks everyone on this forum who helps others to start vaping and quit smoking.

Welcome to ECF, and congrats for wanting to help your dad start vaping. To be honest (although I don't usually recommend non-vapers start smoking) it may be useful to you to get a setup with 0 nic and kind of experiment with what is out there (and possibly keep him company as he detoxes) although alternately, you might not want to try vaping yourself unless your dad is open to vaping and succeeds with it.

Most older smokers (I am assuming your dad has been smoking for a while) do well with what are called "mouth to lung" setups, meaning that the starting nicotine level may be higher, but the amount of vapor produced by the equipment is less, and is inhaled similarly to a cigarette, into the mouth, down into the lungs then out through mouth/nose) this can often be easier than a very cloudy setup where sometimes the vapor is overwhelming, and can be hard to handle (even if at a lower nic level) due to the state of their lungs.

I actually started with a very cloudy, direct to lung inhale setup. I found out I was much happier with a MTL setup that didn't "flood" me with as much vapor. With that said, everyone is different. If you want to get your dad a setup something like an Aspire Zelos kit with a Nautilus two tank on top might be a good place to start, that or an e-leaf pico setup (I would probably get the one with the Melo II tank) both have internal batteries meaning can be charged via USB and are fairly inexpensive. It might be worth going to a Brick and Mortar store (even bringing your dad, if he's willing) to see what appeals to him (including taste testing flavors). If not, something simple and user friendly is going to probably be the best bet for him for now.....

Best of luck, depending on his smoking habit, will affect nicotine amounts. I was a 3 ppd smoker and started out at 18 m.g. of nicotine per milliliter (which is how it's usually expressed, or a percentage) but some folks go higher.

Keep asking questions though, until you feel you have enough information to proceed.

Good luck,

Anna

Thanks a lot for the explanations, my dads been smoking for 30 years, im really grateful for your post.

Welcome to ECF. Is your father open to trying out vaping?

he already tried gums and other alternatives, nothing worked. i'm still learning about vaping so i can explain to him how it works, the costs and how to maintain it.

Well, I think it's fantastic that you are learning about vaping for your dad. Might want to ask him a few questions if you plan on doing most of the legwork-- Like, would he prefer tobacco flavors (my husband wanted that so I got him some NET (naturally-extracted tobacco) juices which can be a bit pricier but offer that "true" tobacco flavor. Some folks like the idea of "tobacco" e-liquid, I personally was quite Done with the taste of tobacco when I quit, and lean toward fruit and desert and alcohol flavors. There's a surprising amount of options out there.

If your dad is mobile and open to it, a trip to the vape store might be in order at some point, with that said, gathering as much background information as you can about it first is smart, before presenting it to him.

There are some useful pinned links scattered about and I also have a feeling Brother Bob will be along and give you some great links to information and threads that will help you get started (he's kinda well, I call him the patron saint of the New Member's forum, but he's great at identifying helpful information and then posting it for your perusal.

I will be wishing your dad takes to vaping like a duck to water, but often times it takes some trial and error (and dual using) to really get going with vaping, so just continue to be encouraging (but not all over him) as he experiments.

That's how I got my husband to start vaping. I just shut up, vaped, watched his increasingly pitiful attempts to quit, and he eventually asked for my help. So also understand that regardless of how much you love your dad, ultimately he will need to do his part, once you help get him going but either way I commend your efforts.

Funnily enough, MY son, who briefly smoked, then vaped for a while, gifted me his gear when he quit vaping. That shamed me enough (along with my ever worsening health) to give it one more try, and I am so glad that I did. Keep posting until all your questions are answered :)

Thats awesome, thanks again! my main concern is finding a good rba coil, from what i know the coils lasts only for 1 - 2 weeks, i already seen a ton of rba tutorials on youtube, so i already know how to rebuild them, what wires to buy and all that, i found that android app " vape tool" that helps a lot with DIY stuff.

The only problem is, there are no vape shops in my country, all the mods/tanks im looking for are on gearbest, and the shipping usually takes 2 - 6 months to get here.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Might want to try not to allow vaping to become a strong habit, if so, sometimes it (like any pleasurable pastime) can get in the way. Only you can make the decision regard if vaping may improves your life.
