So I just got my first sub ohm setup ( please don't talk safety I got a sony vtc5 )
I'm using a kamry k100 with a smok tec caterpillar rda duel coil using 28g wire.
I've been making my 2mm coils around .55 ohm but even when I try to keep my cotton wick really soaked keep burning it a little tried dragon coil style wicking and cotton cloud both still burn a little with in a hour of vaping

So I want to know how other people are wicking there rda's?

I just tried a new wicking style gonna call it a hybrid wick because I decided to pull a little silica wick thru the coil then add a small cotton cloud under the coil seems to be working really good. I've been vaping it for like a hr and a half the cotton under the coil is still nice and white and still haven't got a burnt taste from it. :)

I vape at .5 -.6 myself using an RM2 on one Reo and a Cyclone on the other. I change up from time to time between rayon, KGD, and Readyxwick. I'm using the RxW now and it's great. It's a braided ceramic wick which won't burn. If my coil and wicks get gunked up, I dry burn a few times and it cleans up my coils and my wicks come out white and clean.

Might have to try the Rxw sound cool!
And I try to make sure my cotton is nice and fluffy and it pulls thru the coil easy but will keep that in mind.
But like I said I'm still new to wicking a rda I was using silica to wick my pro tank coils for the last few month
I'm thinking my current build in my rda is the best I've done so far lol.

Personally... *I* don't like vaping at resistance that low. I've tried it all the way down to .3 ohms and for me, anything lower than .7, I burn thru too much juice and get dry hits too often. I've tried evey type of wicking technique I can think of and at low resistance I just vaporize too much juice too quickly. I don't want to put 10-12 drops of liquid in the RDA and only get 3-4 hits before it's dry. I'd much prefer to be at .7-.8 ohms and put 5-6 drops of liquid and get 15 hits before I have to drip again. BUT that's just me. :)

Well, without addressing the elephant in the room on your safety comment and how misguided it is, I will tell you that just as others have said either you have too much, or too little cotton in your coil, or you are not dripping enough, or often enough.

I burn at different resistances on different rigs. On my Reo, I try to keep things around .8, give or take, currently running at .24 on my Veritas, and have gone down to .12 when chasing in my drilled out Militia. I usually have coils ranging from .14 on up to 1.2 at any given time. I have learned from experience, I used to get dry hits all the time, and finding that perfect wick takes time and some experimentation, depending on builds, atty, battery. etc... I have not gotten a dry hit in a very long time, and have gone over two weeks before threading a new wick into my coils a couple of times. A friend showed me his rig, and I was breaking all the rules, I had used too much cotton, and did not drip/squeeze the juice often enough, and was going through wicks on a daily basis. I have actually gone through 120mils of juice on a single wick in my Black Russian running at .7, and that was just a couple of weeks ago. Cotton never burned, and the juice always tasted and vaped great! Large clouds for a tank.

I use only organic cotton, but have tried just about everything on the market. Some are better than others, but my fav is cotton, for the amount of vapor and flavor I get from it. I have a few feet of RxW, and like it, a lot better than silica for me, but still returned to the cotton. If you are having a hard time figuring out how much cotton to use, and how often to drip, then try something a little less demanding, like ReadyxWick, or the like. If you do get a dry hit, it is not nearly as harsh as a dry cotton hit.

I will say, do understand that no battery is fool proof, and can vent. Just make sure you do your research, and fully understand everything you are doing, it is all out there. I use only VTC4s and 5s, and I know that these batteries alone are not going to keep me from getting hurt. Only I can do that.

Not sure how, or if it is even possible, to edit my original post. But I did have a little to add. I have recently ordered some KohGenDo Japanese cotton pads, that seem to be the latest craze, and I believe they will actually be here tomorrow. Going to wick up some attys with it, and see how it does compared to my current go to organic cotton. Be happy to let you know my personal thoughts on it once I have given it a go for a few days if interested.
