My new RBA that I've been vaping on hot and hard for the last three days didn't seem to be vaping the way I thought it should, so I emptied the tank, and took off the cover and tried to dry burn off the coil. This didn't go so well. I ended up messing it up so it wouldn't fire at all. Bummer in the summer...

Joseph had helped me do that coil, and he worked out the hot spots for me with ribbon wire. It was working so great, until I vaped it into an encrusted mess of burnt juice carboned up all over it. Then I messed with it and screwed it up. So, I figured I have 100 ft of 28 ga. kanthal, why not try.

My first effort was a 3 wrap, and I popped the coil.

Then I tried a 4 wrap, evening the coil loops up before anything else, which tested out a .64 ohms, and wonder of wonders, all by myself I got it right. I pulsed the coil a half second a few times, then a bit longer, and whaddayaknow, that coil glowed all the way down, with no hot spots, lighting up like a neon sign. Wowie zowie!

I filled that tank, put the cap back on, and vaped. It produces big rich clouds now, with the very briefest of pushes on that button! There's a soft wooshing sound in the RBA when I push the button and draw on it, just like when Joseph helped me with the first coil, and I only have to push that button a half second to get a huge vape off it.

I think I got it down right, and this time I did it all alone. I'm so proud of myself :)

I have to take it down to Vape King tomorrow and show it off.

You are running a .64 ohm coil at 4.2 volts ( a fresh charged battery) you are pulling 6.5 amps The only batteries I know that are capable of handling that are AW 18650 1600mAh MNKE, 18650 and the Sony 30 amp bats.

Im not trying to rain on your parade Im glad you figuring out how to build a coil, but if not uesing the correct batteries you are looking for trouble.

Heres some links to some necessary info for sub ohm coils.

I'm using AW IMR 18650 2000 MaH batteries. Oddly, after vaping on it a while the coil is now registering .79 ohms. Interesting....

Your good to go with the 2000 mAh you have a 10A continuous discharge. Its not uncomon for coils to gain a little From when its first built.

That ohm law calculator is pretty handy just put in the voltage I always figure 4.2 for a mechanical mod and the resistance and you have the amps you pulling.

Now that youve done it once each coil you build gets easier. Congrats!

I really would like to try my hand at RBA but feel like last poster at this point, need more schooling congrats on your success.

Well I only started vaping back on July 2nd, on a laughable little flea market e-cig that was such a joke. It's not even been two months and I'm running a sub-ohm RBA on a mech now. The scariest thing is all the money it's going to cost you. I'm not rich at all and I've spent more than I should have for sure.

Once you start cloud chasing it's really hard to stop. I was told early on here that I'd end up with an RBA, and I did. It won't be the last one either. Incidentally, I had to order a second battery charger, the Nitecore. It takes a long time to charge up these AW 18650 bats, and I want to vape continuously on this thing.

As long as you do your homework you will be okay.

It's a great feeling. I rebuilt my first Protank coils yesterday and my girlfriend and I have been puffing away without any issue. It's like a brand new coil. The only downside... I have to rebuild hers as well as mine.

Oh don't let her get away with that! I rebuilt my own Protank coils soon after I got my Protank, and there's no reason she can't. I just wound one in fact, a 5/4 wrap testing out at 1.94 ohms, and I'm vaping on it now while the batteries for my RBA are charging. Get her to be self-sufficient in her vaping. As you say, it's a great feeling.
