I'm new to this. I have a Joye 510 and the thickness of my vapors is sporadic. I have prefilled carts and then I add vj to them as needed. I try drawing light and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's hardly anything. I try drawing hard and its the same thing. It seems the best vap I get is when I puff it like a cigar. Help what am I doing wrong? THanks in advance:confused:

Such a simple device is often the most difficult to master. Here's what I've experienced. A lot of the time I get to anxious and want to draw my pv like I'm trying to get every drop out of a milk shake, but I have found the best way is to press the button then after 2 to 3 seconds start a slow draw and releasing the button after I have finished the draw. The only problem I have encountered is the cartos gets too hot too soon and I have to wait to get another draw when I want one right away.

I'm still experimenting so don't feel bad about not mastering it yet.

I've definitely taken the advice of most people around. Long, even and light draws. Obviously not so long that you burn the cart. I get the best TH and vapor out of that. Drawing harder just makes the draw shorter and gives less vapor. I also get better taste that way, when I exhale through the nose so you can 'taste' the liquid by smell. Which is essentially what taste is.

But I do get carts that draw better/worse than others. I'll take them apart and re-arrange the wadding away from the atty a bit to get easier air flow.

Did you get auto batteries? Manual batteries let you get more consistent hits. With manuals, press the button in about 1/2 to 1.5 seconds before the start of your drag, then you can let it up about a second before the end of your drag.

Re vj? You mean VG? You could try thinning it in the bottle with a couple of drops of distilled water (only distilled - not tap, not spring) or a couple of drops of pure grain alcohol. VG may not wick as easily because it is much thicker. I vape PG/VG blends like 70pg/30vg

And eventually most people get sick of carts and switch to cartomizers (or dripping if they have manual batteries which are safer from getting killed by juice leaks)

It is a little counter-intuitive; with an analog if you draw harder you get more smoke. With vaping, drawing easier gives a fuller vapor.

I do have the same problem, though; the vape is not always consistent (even with cartomizers, which is all I use). If there's too much liquid around the filament, it can't get hot enough to vape well; if there's too little, it doesn't have much to vaporize. But once you get a cart into the "sweet spot" it seems to stay there for a while, especially if you top it up (from the tip end) periodically before it starts getting dry.

I'm getting more consistent with practice; I bet you will too.

Just remember to press in the button first - about 1 second before your drag, and you can let it up about 1 second before the end of your drag.

And you want a nice slow drag into your mouth, then inhale.

Carts are a bit wonky. They seem to be always too wet or too dry. Many people end up using cartomizers instead which are a disposable combined cart+atomizer and we also call them cartos. If you fill a good one fully and properly, give it time to settle so every bit of stuffing is damp, then never let it dry out (to avoid singeing it) you should be able to get 4-7 days use or more out of a cartomizer. They cost about $2 each and the best ones for 510 at Boge 510 soft cap cartos (standard resistance only for slim batteries, not the LR or HV). I get them at LiteCigUSA.net

Some people switch to dripping (put a drip tip on the atomizer and drip a couple of drops in, vape that mostly off, add another drop ,etc) - not recommended on auto batteries, and also handy for testing juice samples.

This-

I have prefilled carts and then I add vj to them as needed.

Buy some cartomizers and a juice that's already specific to what you like as far as pg/vg ratio and mg of nicotine. Then just fill the cartomizers with the premixed juice and your good to go.

I have a Joye 510 and a Joye ego and honestly there is no difference between the two as far as TH and vapor. The only difference is the battery life.

I think in fooling with your juice your diluting the flavor and probably why your getting an inconsistant vape.

I used a Joye 510 and an Ego for over a year... the vapor was always hit or miss. The main issue is the juice delivery and there are so many variables... depends how thick your fluid is, how clean your wick/foam is, how clean the coils are... Thinner juices flow better... Also, cartos are meant to be disposable. Sometimes they just stop doing their job!

This is why dripping, tanks, bottom feeding, etc are so popular... cartos have minds of their own!

OP... you could try de-wicking a 510 atty (if you have one) and dripping directly on it... dripping is the best way I've found to get consistent vapor, flavor, and throat hit. If you like vaping, it may be time to upgrade... a 510 will only satisfy for so long!

If you need help with de-wicking, do a search here on ECF... its been covered over and over again! If you need help and cant find what you're looking for, PM me

I have a Prosmoke mini which is very inconsistent with vapor. Sometimes a cart will last a long time (until the filling appears dry), other times it quits pretty quickly (even with juice clearly visible). I am really tired of fiddling with it all the time, as well as having to replace the batteries so often.

There seems to be 2 general schools of vapers ... those that are really into it as a hobby (trying this and that all the time), and those (like me) who just want something that works reliably with a minimum of hassle. The Prosmoke, while a decent and functional entry into the world of vaping, is a bit too much hassle for my liking, which is why I plan on trying the GoGo.

The fill and type of cart are the main cause of your issues. I think I spent like 2 months playing with them before dialing my vapor production in with the Tea bag material. The CE2's and Boge dual carto's would be better for you if your not into playing with equipment. The next part is your juice mix. personally I use 24mg in a 70/40 mix for the vapor production and throat hit.

Basically, PG offers more flavor and TH, VG offers more vapor. If you aren't getting enough TH, you may want to go up in battery voltage if playing around with the juice doesn't help. Have you tried a 306 LR atty? They provide very good flavor and TH and they fit on 510 threads (uses a 306 style DT though)

I agree with sugar, I smoked ultra lights for the last several yrs and before that regulars, total of 27yrs. Could be the 510 just doesn't have enough kick for you, a bigger battery, esp. One that does a true 3.7v (510's under load only give I believe about 3.2)

Excellent points. I would suggest a bettery battery PV such as a Go-Go, Riva or even better would be a 5 volt or variable volt PV that better simulates the "inhaled feel" of an analog. I would also consider a higher nic level in the 18-24mg range.
