Increasing Flavor

Hi All,

I've been a big fan of FSUSA juices, but as I've decreased the nicotine level closer to zero, I find that I just don't get the amount of flavor I'm looking for.

I wasn't really aware that nicotine is a flavor enhancer, but that's the only thing I can think of.

I've been ordering the extra extra flavor for my juices, but aside from some of the strongest flavors, like "Candycane", I just can't seem to get satisfied with the more subtle ones.

Hypnotic Mist is almost barely there, and even hopscotch is just not doing it (even with the extra extra specified).

I know that even some ultralight analogs can produce some pretty heavy flavors, so there must be a way to increase flavor while maintaining a low level of nicotine intake.

I am changing over to a Reo mod, with an 18650 AW battery, if all goes well tomorrow, and I hear the 306 and 801 atty's might help as well, but that won't help my woman, when I'm not around (she uses a Riva 510, with Joye LR 510 attomizers).

Any suggestions on how to "spike" the flavor, without boosting the nicotine? I love vaping, but I'm trying to get down to, and stay at, the 0-6mg range, and nothing but the menthol type flavors seem to cut it.

I'm a bit nervous about DIY stuff, as I don't want to end up making lots of batches that end up tasting awful, and I really don't want to fund massive projects to learn it. I'd be up for some minor experimentation, though.

Thanks!

I have the exact same experience as you do with lower nic = lower flavor. I think that something in the nic does enhance the flavor. The juice that I have at lower nic does not even change to deeper shades of color after steeping like the higher nic juice does. Have you let you juice steep to see if that increases the flavor for you? FSUSA does have something called Qhit available that is an additive as well as another item listed in the DIY Flavors that may help. Also if you are tempted to do any DIY you may want to get some empty 3ml bottles to experiment with. You won't have to use as much juice with smaller batches. Good luck to you.

Depending on the flavor of your juice this can help and be an easy DIY in some cases. I've bought some of the FlavourArt flavoring and added my own additional drops of flavor to my own taste to the premixed flavors I've bought. Add a few drops, wait 24 hrs to give it a test taste to see if you need to add more. Less is better as you can always add more if you find you need it.

Thank you both for the tips! I haven't tried additives, so I'll consider that.

A good friend of mine, that I converted to e-cigs and gave the name of FSUSA to, purchased the raw flavoring here, was very disappointed. He also got a pretty crummy customer service response from Dave, so I'm going to skip the DIY flavoring from FSUSA. He thought maybe it was just a bad batch, and is going to try again, so I'll see how the next round goes. Dave gave him a pretty crummy response though, and I personally haven't been very happy with the service lately.

On my last order, I almost felt like I had to beg Dave to prove that they sent me only one atomizer, instead of the two I ordered (and was charged for). I could care less about the $9 cost of an atomizer, but more about the fact that I was insulted; as if I can't count to two. I won't be ordering any more atomizers from FSUSA; that's for sure.... The replacement I got was torn open, and took a number of emails to get :(

What exactly is in the flavor enhancers? I'm a little nervous about adding more chemicals to something that I was hoping is as safe as I can try to keep it.

I may just swap companies. I'm just not sure why I pay extra extra for flavoring, if what I get is, less less flavor.

thanks for being so honest blade. i am sure someone more knowledgeable then me will respond soon. i like strong flavors too.

I hope so too.

I don't mean to be playing down the FSUSA juices, either. I really love their stuff.

I imagine it's not vendor specific, that flavors aren't as strong in the low nicotine versions. I hear that complaint across the board. I just want to sort out how to counter the drop, without increasing the chemicals that are vaped.

I'm going to try the additives, once I find out what they are chemically, and if they pose any health hazards.

I'll try to run them past a few doctor friends, and see what they think. But having a chemical analysis done isn't cheap.

It could be too much VG. That is, the flavor's not able to mix thoroughly with the thicker VG, and that could be why you don't taste much flavor. There could be other reasons why you don't taste much flavor, though.

I use about 75/25 pg/vg and get plenty of flavor, but if I add too much more VG than 25%, the flavor decreases.

You could just add more DIY flavoring to the pre-mixed FSUSA juices. FlavourArt flavoring is available at FSUSA, but there are more flavor choices at ecigexpress.com for low prices and more mLs (30mL bottles of concentrated flavorings).

ecigexpress also has a good sale going on right now plus another 20% discount using coupon code HOLIDAYFLAVOR through 12/31/10. If you do decide to order the flavorings, try adding just a few drops to your current juice until you find the right amount. These flavorings are concentrated, so you want to start out with just a few drops in a small amount of liquid, while you're doing the testing (like 2 drops flavoring per 5mL of juice, for example, and then increase or decrease to your taste).

Very cool. Thanks you for the tips! I see some of the same flavors on there, so it will make it easy to match them up.

Dumb question, but are you shaking the bottle good before using the liquid? This could be another reason for less flavor.

Yep. I shake the bottle up well, before every drip. I have glass bottles, and a glass dropper (which I empty out before filling it to drip with).

I'm placing an order now for the menthol ultra, 80/20, with extra extra flavoring, as well as 80/20 hypnotic mist, also with extra extra flavoring, and a bottle of the hypnotic mist flavor to top it off. I also ordered some 306 LR's, with drip tips, and will try an 801 LR and converter, if the 306's don't cut it.

I'm so close to being in vape heaven, aside from not having a bottom feeder (for convenience), and adequate taste. I rarely smoke analogs anymore except a random cheat, but I could break even the cheating days, if I just had enough flavor to make it taste full bodied.

I want to get down to 0 nicotine, and enjoy vaping purely for the taste, or when I get an urge to cheat. I'm so close to being free of nicotine, and I want to stay that way.

Thanks for all of the help. I have a feeling I'm back on the right track, and will now get to the place I need to be. If not now, than soon.

There's just so much to learn, and experiment with, in using ecigs to quit. It's also the best method I've experienced, and almost cathartic to have to struggle to find that perfect vape.

Thanks again!
