I've got some images that may help you visualize the inductive charging system used by Braun:

This first shot (a bad one at that) shows the base of the toothbrush:

The planar charging coil is located below the spring. Note that the spring is basically a shorted turn, but it is far enough away from the field that it is not really a problem.

Here is a shot of the coil removed from the base (not my picture):

This is what the charger base looks like. There is a source planar coil in there:

What about inductive heating, as opposed to charging? I don't know how small you can build an induction heating coil that would do the job, but it only has to heat a small amount of liquid to vaporization temp. Seems like a very small piece of metal would do the job (not talking about the induction coil here, just the metal being heated by the induction coil).
