olderthandirt; When it comes down to the nitty gritty everything is just a battery holder. I am totaly unconcerned with looks, just performance.
My Janty Stick out performs everything I've tried as for as reliability draw after draw after draw. The SD is second, possibly since I've only had it a week. I alternate 'tween them.
By the way my SD is with a 801 atty. As is my JS.
I have a Prodigy lying in a drawer. Loved it the first two days, then it went to hell, VERY poor performance. Cleaned everything, switched bats, switched chargers, did everything recommended on all the advice threads... still underperformed. Finally I've ordered another switch, its the only thing left to try. I believe this will fix the issue, but we will see. If not the Prodigy will be buried and forgotten.
I've had some problems with connections, poor performance on my Prodigy also. I fixed it by cleaning all brass and the aluminum connections with metal polishing creme.
I was amazed at the amount of tarnish/grime that came off of the contacts.
It was a lot!
You want the brass and aluminum end cap/threads to have a "chrome-like" shine. The threads on the body must be shined up also.
I have had no switch problems on my Prodigy.
I would agree with GrimmGreen on the flavor aspect.
3.7 does produce better flavor. I was content to give up the slight flavor loss, because 5 volts produced the vapor I needed. As a smoker for 25 years of Marb. reds/full strength cigarettes, 3.7 volt did not cut it on vapor production.
The only way I could get enough vapor from 3.7 volts was to primer puff, or hit the thing for so long, the vapor was hot (which gives the WRONG kind of throat hit). Then the roof of my mouth would be tender from the heat. It felt like when you eat pizza that's too hot.
I get plenty of throat hit from 5 volts. It's pretty much common sense, more power will do that. BUT, I don't have to fry my atty so hot to achieve that with 5 volts. 3-4 second drag at 5 volts... perfect!
To say that 3.7 volts produces better results is simply wrong.
3.7 volts cannot not perform as efficiently as 5 volts... period.
I vape only tobacco/cigarette flavors, so flavor was not an issue. Perhaps if I vaped Fruity, or candy flavors, maybe 5 volts greatly reduce the taste pleasure more with those?
In my opinion fruity/candy flavors= Crap. Although I do love my coffee flavor... a lot.
As far as heat factor, my 801 does not get too hot at 5 volts. It is much better than 901 or -510, and it does not leak either, unlike the 901 atty.
801's are known for not producing heat, and the ability to handle higher power. That is why many people prefer them. They are awesome for dripping also.
The 801 matched with 5 volts of power is all I'll ever need. Simply a winning combination in my opinion.
I wash out my atomizers with 190 proof Pure grain alcohol (EverClear), every couple of days. This method keeps my atty's tasting pretty good.
