Innokin. Are we witnessing an evolution of sorts?

Not too long ago, innokin released the iClear 30 top-fed, dual-coil Clearomizer with an astounding 16 wicks.

16 wicks, gleefully swimming in a tank of liquid, eagerly transferring that liquid up to the dual-coil head.

Pretty cool, right? Well then, innokin releases the iClear 30s. Just a new rev, a single letter suffix, and a change to the internal workings. Still has 16 wicks, but they are now.... enclosed.

Now those wicks are sheathed in an aluminum tube, still doing their job, but no longer do they "swim free" within the tank.

Which leads me to my question. When does a wick stop being a wick and turn into cartridge filler? When does a clearomizer become a cartomizer?

Based on what I have heard (my iClear 30s are on their way) the performance is still as good, if not better than the earlier models. I can clearly see that one of the intents of this new design is to encourage vapers to simply toss a spent head and slap in a new one instead of attempting to clean the wicks and coils. Fair enough, if the price is low, the convenience is high and the performance is superior... I can make an informed choice as a consumer.

But I keep asking myself. Isn't this now essentially a top-coil cartomizer?

It's a cleartomizer. Or a cartlearomizer. Or a carto - learo. Or a clearo-carto. Or a wick-a-carto. Or a clearo-fill-o.

my head is now swimming

I liked the looks of the Iclear30S,,,,,,,,but I can't see how you can dry burn it,,,,,,,and that's a no go for me if I can't dry burn it.

Let me know if I'm wrong :)

the thing is, did they actually turn the coil vertical when they enclosed the wicks in the sheath?

If not, I can not really see the benefit to it. Cartos use verticl coils surrounded by filler, which increases the surface area of liquid in contact with the coil. If the iclear30s simply is the same design head as the 30, just with a metal sheath around it, it isnt really a carto as the surface area of the wicking material to the coils has not increased.

All it did was make it impossible to dry burn. I also heard they opened up the airhole quite a bit, and I liked the tighter draw on my 'old' iclear30.

In the end, I am moving to cartotanks now anyways, but the 'old' iclear30 is still in the at home rotation. Heck, I may even buy another and some more heads just for the heck of it.

That actually looks interesting may have to try one. Even though I like glass I wanna see how the vape is
I am a huge fan of glass/pyrex myself.

I am trying these because I am in search of a better delivery system for my wife. She was a long time smoker and her inhalation method is so subconscious and so ingrained (she hits deep and hard straight into her lungs) that she can't stop, even when she makes a deliberate effort to try. As a result, she floods carto-tanks in 2-3 draws and as of now, the only thing that she doesn't destroy easily are the Mega Cartos. Unfortunately, she's not a "fiddler" and if she can't see the liquid level, she also tends to run the megas until they dry out and burn. I'm hoping to find some sort of tank-ish system that allows her to visually monitor the fill level and that can stand up to her hoovering. I keep telling her "honey, there is a time and a place to suck hard, and vaping isn't one of them". Then she usually hits me. I have no idea why.

I 2nd the original iClear 30. I think it would serve her well. Can't speak for the s as I have not tried it, and since it is not glass I don't think I will. Looks super cool though IMO.

Have you tried the Protank and/or Protank Mini II? I love mine, and they are glass. I don't think one can flood them.

How else can they make you keep buying more if they dont figure out how to get you to stop dry burning and reusing your carto-lero heads?
I agree that there is a measure of "business model driving design" behind this change, it makes the cartridge/head a "consumable" and makes the users more likely to keep purchasing the consumables (not much different than inkjet printers selling for cheap and the replacement ink cartridges being the real money maker).

However, I would imagine that just like folks who boil/rinse/clean their cartos in order to extend the life of them (as opposed to simply tossing and replacing) that the 30S cartridges will similarly be extended by those who are not inclined to "use and toss".
