I am relatively new to vaping. I currently use eGo Twists and Vision Spinner set ups and have no issues with them, but I've been sniffing around for other options because apparently, that's what us vapers do. :p

I am considering an innokin iTaste SVD set. What differences would I notice if I made the switch in terms of vaping experience, cost and effort to maintain?

Variable Voltage mods are just a different type of battery. You can turn the power up or down, and maintain a steady output. In all honesty the biggest difference between it and an eGo Twist is the size. You can put larger tanks on an SVD without it looking top heavy. Aside from that the SVD has a battery you have to remove to recharge, so you'll need at least 2 IMR batteries (and a charger) unless you're wanting to go several hours at a time without using it while the battery recharges.

Now, in regards to the SVD itself, I would recommend virtually ANY other variable voltage/variable wattage mod over an SVD. Aside from the fact that it's absolutely huge in size the SVD also has a LOT of problems. Sure, a lot of people get them and never have a problem, but the percentage of people that do have problems with them is VERY high compared to other mods, and there are several members here who have had more than one fail. (I've had two, both failed inside of 4 months)

I don't know about the SVD but I have the VTR and the only thing I notice is how much more ejuice I go through. I think it is the double coils. Other than that I just buy coils. It cost more for the itaste but I find it way better than my ego that had retired into my closet.

Would you say that the VTR is a goos first mod? How long have you had yours?

I would say the VTR is an extremely expensive mod.

If you want a good starter VV/VW mod that cheap, easy to use, and doesn't require separate batteries or a charger then have a look at the MVP2.0. It will do virtually everything the SVD does at a MUCH cheaper price and they don't have nearly the problems of the SVD. You can get one as cheap as $40.

Having a screen display to see on the fly what voltage or wattage and ohms you are using is a big advantage.

Thanks for that recommendation. I actually ordered one of those and then cancelled the order because I had second thoughts about that box shape. I wonder if I could get used to it. What differences would I notice in vaping performance?

Edit: I meant vaping performance compare to these twist batteries I'm using.

If you like your eGo style and size batts but want one with considerably more functionality, I suggest the eGoV V3 Mega. Fantastic 1300mAh battery (lasts me at least two days on a charge) Battery features: press quickly 5 times to turn on/off
Voltage and wattage switch: Press the "+" button for 5 seconds to switch the mode (VV/VW)
Press the "-" button for 5 seconds to display coil resistance. It also does this automatically whenever you put one on it.
Lock the selected voltage or wattage: Press "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds
Variable voltage: adjustable from 3.0-6.0V in 0.1 increments
Variable Wattage: adjustable from 3.0-15.0W in 0.5 increments
Maximum Current Output: 2.5A
Input type: DC 5V 500mA
14-seconds safety cutoff
Short-circuit and low resistance protection
0.7 inch screen shows the voltage, wattage, battery level and resistance
510/eGo threaded connector
I got this one from Fasttech and it took 3 weeks to get to me but you can probably find it somewhere that ships faster if you want to pay a little more for it. They have it in five different colors that have that non-slip slightly rubberized feel to them. I find that I use it WAY more than my heavy "steel-pipe" type mods and it does all that they do plus has passthrough and is a fraction of their size or weight! Hard to beat all that for $23.91 w/free shipping!! ;)

In regards to vaping performance you would have a wider power range to choose from and the battery would last 2-3 days on a single charge.

The box shape is REALLY easy to get used to. I used tube mods for almost a year before getting my first box mod. After only 3 days of using it I now prefer it to tubes. It's shorter so it fits in pockets a lot easier, and it has a lower center of gravity so it's more stable when set down. I don't tip my box mod over nearly as often as I did my tube mods. The boxes are surprisingly small.

Thanks for all the great advice and suggestions. I ended up placing an order for the MVP 2. I paid $40 for the Vision Spinner I have at a B&M (God help me and my impatience for waiting for web orders). It won't be a huge loss if I'm not in love with it. Who knows, I might love it more as you say, Average. Plus, it will be fun to try something new. I'll report back once it gets here and I take it for a spin.

Ability to go from 3wats to 15 watts seems pretty impressive for a disposable type eGo Battery. That's what is sounds like on paper, does it really have as much as power as something like a SVD or Vamo when going to higher watts/volts?

40$ for the vision spinner 1 is really high. The brick and mortar where I bought my spinner 900mah was for 30. The Spinner II was 45 there last time I checked.

You can get it really cheap from fast-tech for about $15 bucks, (although it does take a long time to ship, maybe 2-3 weeks) but it does seem to be authetnica product. It comes in really nice Vision box that I thought was nifty. The spinner II does have more oomph than the original model.

Despite having to return my first one, I am really enjoying my SVD; especially in 800 mah mode.

If this one were to crap out, I might look for another one. Maybe spend an extra $20 at a reputable US vendor.

After having gone through two SVDs that failed, used Ego type VV batteries, used a Smoktech Zmax, Halo Triton with VV batteries, Kicked Nemesis mech mod, and now a Cloupor DNA30 clone, the one device that I'm in love with is the DNA30 clone. It's like an MVP on steroids, but I wouldn't recommend it to a novice. It's a high end device that's tailored for people who use RBAs/RTAs rather than retail clearos with premade coils.

But 7-30 watts of power and about half the size of an SVD, it's hard to beat.

I wouldn't say extremely expensive, they can be had between $65-$75 all over eBay, which has me thinking of one just for fun. An MVP is definitely a better deal, the VTR just ups the style quotient a bit.

The VTR also has two other advantages. It goes to 15 watts where the MVP is limited to 11 watts, and it has a replacable battery, which of course means you've got to add in the cost of a battery as well.

My real problem with the VTR is that even the cheapest Ebay deal is about the same price as a DNA30 clone which delivers twice the power. It falls in the strange gap between a novice device and a device for the experts, but has a price that matches many of the expert devices that can do more. For the price of an VTR I would be tempted to recommend a mech mod with a Kick2 module which would do all of the same voltage regulation as the VTR and give you the option of removing the Kick if you wanted to get into serious rebuilding and subohming.
