Interested in modding this...but

I bought two of these from madvapes:
Aluminum Tube Flashlight, 1XAA, 1 LED, Blue

I had bought them with the intention of trying to make myself a flashlight mod.

Anyone make anything out of one of these cuties yet? and willing to post a tutorial on how to connect a switch etc to it?

I have a black one, I started modding it, but put it aside. A 14500 fits perfect. I drilled a hole for a 3mm led and was gonna use the bottom switch (modded for momentary). I have a rubber stopper that I put a positive terminal for the top of the battery, and the ground goes through the housing.

OMG i didnt even know they glowed, just tested it and the center rubber ring does in deed glow in the dark!

Thank you for all the links, i will check them all out. Hopefully i can figure out how to do this cause now i'm even more amped up to mod it! And i agree with you they are very nice looking, and have that bottom strap that can be clipped onto a neck lace, or purse strap, or even a belt loop i guess. Its a very nice little toy..as a flashlight tho it sucks. =)

one more question, i dunno if this will be answered in the links or not but how do you get the lens and bulb out? The description at madvapes says light pressure from inside will pop it out..I tried it, no go. My husband tried it with a LOT of pressure and still no go LOL.

I put a socket extension in mine and tapped it with a hammer. It doesn't take much.

you may want a good 2a to 3a switch... just to make sure it doesnt burn out or anything... or wire a mosfet... but that would be a tight fit i think...

I cant even start on this thing cause i cant get the lens out omg. I've tried unscrewing the top part of it, i've tried pushing it out with a screw driver, and i dont own a socket extension so i cant try that..But geez, this flashlight is not liking me so far.
Maybe if i threw it against a wall mm?

I finally got the lens out, practically had to jump up and down on the thing though!! gotta get a dremel bit that will chew a hole into the metal tho for my horn switch i bought for it. Eep. Gonna probably put more work on this weekend when i have time to go shopping for the stuff i need.

Maybe i should see if radio shack has a smaller switch, less drilling tee-hee.

You might find if you drill a 3mm hole with the standard dremel bit, you can use a knife/scissors and rotate them in hole to cut out the hole being as its soft aluminum, takes time because you don't want to apply to much pressure, but less prone to permanent damage than trying to use a cutting bit.

Depends how large a switch you are trying to put in of course, up to 6mm would be doable that way.

Or drill hole with whatever bit came with your Dremel and then enlarge it with the cone shaped grinder that comes with most Dremel starter kits.

be careful with smaller switches... if there not 3a they burn out... in post 8 i added a link to mosfets if you want to use a smaller switch...

I love these flashlights have built three of them.I use the click button on bottom of the flashlight for the master on/off and put a 6mm tac swicth also a led.

The horn switch i bought from madvapes is 3amp rated. Thanks everyone for the feed back your giving! I havent decided if i am going to add an LED to it yet. How does using the bottom button as a atty activator work?

Edit...The pictures made me misread that post wrong, i see now that you are using the button as a on/off switch

You can do it both ways. Shantia the first one I built I used the button on the bottom of the light for my switch so it was really easy to build that one. Click the button and the atty is on click it again it's off.That one did not have a led .So if you want the easyist way to build one that is the way to go.
