That's it exactly. I sanded it down on the inside and it still doesn't seem to maintain a connection. Unsure if those tabs are at fault or it's the inside of the flashlight.

Well solder a wire to the threads (neg) of your connector. You already have a hole and a place to attach the other end for a solid connection. I'm assuming you have a side mounted switch.

I may end up doing this if all else fails. Getting frustrated, so I need to take a break from it.

Just finished mine last night. No switch as it was too big for my tastes...just using the clicky one on bottom. Works as expected...yay
