Hello I'm a brand spanking new member of your forum. I'm very interested in switching from smoke to vapor. A little about myself. I'm 55 yrs old and I've been smoking for almost 40 yrs. I smoke menthol lights. I've quit one time for about 3 yrs..I would still sneak a smoke in at times..and gained 50 lbs. I started back smoking full time. Now I'm trying to quit again using Chantix but I'm not doing so good and I hate the Chantix. Makes me feel weird. Anyway a guy at work has switched to Envy e-cig and now another buddy has ordered Smoketip. I smoked about 1/2-3/4 pack a day and now I suffer though trying to get by with 5 or 6 analogs a day. I know what my problem is quitting; I like to smoke. I've read most of the newbie stuff and now I'm ready to put out some money and I would really like some recommendation where to start and who to order from. Sorry for the rambling. I haven't had a smoke since yesterday.

Hang in the Scbackpakcer, you're in the right place!! I quit the moment I got my KR808D kit. What I started with is a 2-piece system comprised of a battery and a cartomizer. 3-pc units are a battery, atomizer and cartridge. Personally, I found it very easy to use the 2-piece. Are you thinking you want something that looks and feels like an analog, or would you be satisfied with something that strays a little from the "authentic" look and feel?

Welcome to ECF!

If you've been reading, you'll notice that a lot of first timers gravitate towards either the KR808 (2 piece) or the 510 (3 piece but can use the KR808 cartomizers with an attachment)

I can only recommend what I've tried and I use the KR808D-1 from Vapor4Life. It made my life easier. All you need is a couple batteries, a charger, some blank cartomizers and some juice. They have some fabulous starter kits and their customer service as well as their forum here are great.

Best of luck to you as you find your way!

Hi Sc , Welcome to ECF,
The usual advise for a fist time ecig user here is to get a 510 kit or go directly to the Ego kit. The Ego does not look so much like a real cig but it is the 510 kit on steroids.
The battery will last all day , where as a 510 will require frequent charging during the day but it does look more like a cig style pv.
Both are avalable at Cignot.com . A well respected vender here.

As for liquids , the most popular seem to be tasty vapor, ms ts bakery, vapor station,
or halo . There are many others too.

There is a venders list here on ecf and be sure to check your chosen venders forum for cupons before you buy. Several have cupons for discounts just for ecf members,

There is a lot to learn, others will give you more info soon I am sure.

Anything you need to know just ask, people here are always willing to help:)
Good luck with your journey into vaping!

    Somewhere between here and there
If you look at the top of the page there is a link to a list of forum suppliers. Everyone has their favorites as do I. Maybe you could tell us a little more about what you would like in an e-cig. Many will recommend the 510 and it is a good unit. There is a 510 cartomizer unit available now where instead of using cartridges with an atomizer, they are combined into a cartomizer which is kinda nice so you don't have to refill often. There are three main models, the 510, 901, and 801. Each has it's own advantages. Then there is the kr808 unit which is a two piece cartomizer unit. Tell us a little more about what you expect and if you think you would want a standard unit or a mod with a battery that would last much longer.

    Welcome Scbackpacker!
You are in the right place for brotherhood and knowledge.
There are plenty of people on this forum that have many
levels of helpfull information to keep you fired up with
    E-Cigs.
Scan through the E-cig reviews and check out all the forum
    suppliers.
IMO, I would start with an Ego/Riva/Hello type of model and
be sure to order some juice for your cartridges or cartomizers.
I quit cold turkey, but once in a while still have a craving.
Thanks to Alien Visions Boba Bounty, I am able to push the
    cravings on to another day.
    Good luck

I converted using Smoke Tip(aka KR808d-1) also and they have some great menthol. My aunt was diagnosed with cancer yet again this time throat cancer they told her she had to quit now I got her a smoke tip kit and she quit altogether she was also a menthol smoker. Now personally I like the auto regular Vapor4life battery as a back up but smoketip has a lifetime warranty on their batteries. I did not care for any of the Vapor4life menthol cartos. You can get some great blank cartos and fill with your own juice as well.

WOW I can tell this is a forum I want to be a member of. I hate to say it but I went and picked up a pack of Swisher Sweets:(. My wife doesn't fuss as bad if I smoke cigars, she thinks I don't inhale. I would like to get one that about the size of regular cig but I like the black color because it doesn't look like a cig but it doesn't matter as long as I can get what I need which is nicotine and not smoke I want to keep the cost down as much as I can and still get a good unit that will last all day and not be a lot of trouble to keep going.

In order to get a unit that will last all day, you will probably need a mod. Not to worry, there are plenty out there...Here is a link that will show you all the different styles and costs. e-Cigarette modifications | e-Savuke.com With a mod, you will lay out more to start with, and you will most likely have to buy rechargable batteries, a charger, possibly spacers (depending on the battery) and carts/cartos and juice. It will be a little more expensive start up, but most of us end up with mods eventually...I did. You will see a link to the mod I got in my signature.

    Welcome scbackpacker,

I'm fairly new too. I got the Joye eGo, which is the same as a Joye 510, but has a bigger battery. A 510 is shaped more like a real cig, but you'll have to charge your batteries several times per day. The eGo has a bigger battery, so it doesn't resemble a real cig, but it can go most of the day on a single charge. I'm very pleased with my eGo, as are many people here.

I got my eGo kit from Cignot. They have a very good reputation here. They have a Joye eGo kit for $78.00 that includes 2X battery, 2X atomizers, 4X cartridges and 1X charger. Warning: the charger needs to plug into an AC to USB wall adaptor; you'll need to get this also or your charger will be useless.

Do you drive much? Cartridges are very easy to refill, but a bit tricky to swap out when you're driving. Catomizers (cartridges + atomizers) are much easier to swap while driving and last longer between refills than cartidges, but take longer to refill. Consider getting some cartomizers for when you go on the road. They're also handy to have around in case one of your atomizers dies (which it will).

Cignot doesn't have a large selection of juices, so you might consider getting your juices from another vendor. Also, in addition to getting tobacco-flavored juices, consider getting small samples of other flavors. You might find something you like better than tobacco, and there's no technical reason why you're nicotine fix has to taste as bad as a cigarette.

    More questions?

A cart usually last me 10 mins if Im going some :D
I reckon its about 2 cigs worth - maybe less - hard to comapre them and I dont bother lol
Get an eGo, get a manual, get it from cignot - I get 3 days delivery here in NC and the cignot ladies are awesome on their customer service.
Get great juice - I get mine from Tasty vapor (Tasty Vapor) an DIYFLavorshack (DIY Flavor Shack by E-Cig Smoke Store). Local to us (sort of lol) is also madvapes (Welcome to MadVapes LLC) and Myfreedomsmokes.
I'd recommend any company on the forum really - check out the reviews of suppliers subforum (read a few pages btw not just page 1) and the reviews of ELiquids (ditto) to get ideas!
I dont work for any PV company btw - Im a home maker & ex- IT manager :)
I hope you LOVE vaping as much as I do
    Welcome to ECF
