I had an interesting expierance today at the fabric store, I was shopping and the lady working there asked what I was making , so I showed her my pink Ego and she thought it was perfume bottle! LOL

So I demonstrated it for her and she was really amazed. Wanted to know more for a friend of her. On to the speel about ecigs etc.

Took another vape and asked her what she smelled. I was vaping banana nut bread and she said she smelled smoke!!

I took it apart and showed her that smoke was impossible LOL

Still , she found it amazing that because she saw 'smoke' it smelled like smoke to her.

This is a non smoker. So how much does the sight of the vapor trick the mind into thinking it is real smoke.?

Anyway , I found it really interesting that a non smoker would actually think they smelled smoke when that is just not possible.

well sight does play a lot - think about carpenters and the like that cut their fingers off on a band saw. they don't really notice and it doesn't hurt until they SEE it. she probably saw smoke so that's what she smelled. perhaps u should have tried another flavor like vanilla or something else that had a strong non-tobacco odor - unfortunately bananas don't smell or taste like anything really.

yes, I've had a similar experience with a family member. He was riding in the car with me and rolled down the window. When I asked why, he said it "stunk"... but whenever I ask my (obviously non-smoking child) she says (she smells), "nothing, why?"

Of course, this family member is always suspicious of ANYTHING he doesn't know about. :( Hard to know how to handle that response.

I call BS. I started smoking at 14, my mom til the day I quit months ago never wanted me to smoke around her (an ex smoker). When I was a kid living with her I'd try to sneak a puff in my bedroom once in a while, she'd nail me every time. I got older and moved out, I've never out of respect, smoked when I visited her. I now vape openly in her house, she doesn't mind one bit. I guarantee you if it smelled remotely like smoke that woman would know, and I almost exclusively use tobaccos.

I'll go along with the sight thing DC...but I will add that you do feel it when you cut off a finger, doesn't hurt like you'd think it should, cause it severs the nerves, but you feel it.

I had the tip on one cut off as a kid by a printing press my dad had in the garage, they were able to reattach that one, I'd have to point it out to you to see they did such a great job. I had the tip of my index finger cut off in a hydraulic spot welder when I worked at Chrysler years ago, I wasn't as fortunate with that one.

Pretty depressing sight when they break out the workman's comp chart and show you exactly what each part of your body is "worth". The tip was worth the most, the next 2 digits were near "worthless"

i've never lost a finger, i was going by the word of a couple ppl that have and they told me they didn't know till they saw it, that they just noticed a "thump" like they hit a knot but that was it.

though they were warning me to watch what i was doing at the time so now that i think about it, they may have had reason to embellish:facepalm:

but i can only imagine how i'd feel being told that even part of me was even near worthless - i think i might have reacted badly to news like that and offered to break theirs if they were so worthless - but i wouldn't suggest any1 else do that. that attitude is most reasonably a fair part of y i'm in the situation i'm in.

They do emit an odor, depending on the juice/proximity. I have a couple that make my wife gag.

That said, unless you were vaping "burning cigarette" flavor, I don't see how someone's objection could hold any merit.

Actually she wasnt objecting, just curiouse and interested to give the information to her friend about them. She found it wierd that she percieved the smell of smoke when it was impossible.
Made me wonder if perhaps the visual is a smell trigger or something.
It really is an interesting point. Kind of like a smell reminding you of some one/some place/some time.

I have a friend that smells cotton candy out of anything from Tasty Vapor that doesn't have cinnamon in it. If it has cinnamon she smells that.

I have another friend who is often bothered by vapor if it gets too close to her. She's also bothered by fog machines so I don't mind it that much.
Its funny though, medical reports I've read have shown PG to be non-irritating to the throat and lungs, but I've seen several people start coughing around fog machines.

When I was a little girl I had a 'science' book. It was filled with all sorts of little interesting facts. Sort of like Bill Nye the Science Guy only in a book. There was this one page that I really liked. It had a scratch and sniff cookie on it. You were supposed to scratch the cookie.. and well smell it. When I did, of course, I smelled cookie! Der, pretty straight to the point. Not very sciencey, huh?

Turn the page and discover.... the scent was actually PIZZA! Oh my! :D The book even said, "Because you see you a cookie, you smell a cookie"

So.. because she saw smoke.. she smelled smoke.

Moral of the story - It's a common neurological phenomenon.

I have vaped in the work elevator a couple of times and they have asked what I was smoking because it was too sweet smelling to be a cig. So of course I go into the whole e-cig thing and they are amazed. It gets better when I tell them it tastes just like it smells. That's when they want to start vaping.
