I live in a superfund clean up area. We had a vermiculite mine here and the stuff is all over. It causes asbestosis. The public here is entitled to free lung screening. (xray and a spirometer test) 4 people from my family went for screenings.
Me (32 year, 2 PAD smoker, vaping for the last 7 years)
My husband (never smoked lived with a smoker 25 years)
My mom (never smoked lived with a smoker 35 years)
My sister (current smoker 26 years, 1 PAD)
Results, (fvc % of air you can exhale), (fev % of air exhaled in the first second)
Me fvc 99%, fev 108%
My husband fvc 86%, fev 91%
My mom. fvc 91%, fev 98%
My sister fvc 81%, fev 86%
Everyone's xays were clear except for my sister who has the beginnings of COPD. She has one of my spare Povaris, maybe this will wake her up.

I work with asbestos and as a result, I have to take those tests annually. Before I quit smoking, I was border line for needing to find a different line of work. I wasn't breathing well enough to be approved for some of the respirators we use .
Fast forward 6 years.... Apparently, I have the lung function of a never smoker. Amazing .

Those results were very encouraging, thanks for sharing them. LOL, my doc hasn't made me blow through the tube, he wants me to wait at least a year, "So the results are more encouraging." But, he thinks they will be, although it's really hard not to improve from "having the lungs of a 90 year old woman." That was my result the last time I was tested.

At the time, it didn't phase me a bit, I was like, "Okay, so I'm pretty active for a 90 year old woman. I get around, I exercise, etc."

The 18 month pneumonia was more sobering, but I am looking forward to learning if my lungs have gone backward in time, :D.

To share my experience, I was a smoker for 40 years. I decided to try vaping because I was beginning to get short of breath and was weezing.
It has been the best thing I've ever done. Ive been. Vaping for 4 yrs now and the weezing and shortness of breath has gone.
Last year I had a medical and did a lung function test. The result of that showed that I have a lung function age of 36......wicked. Now I'm trying to find other option to bring the rest of my body to that age haha.

Man, that is terrific. I think I may be too far along. They said I had "emphysema like changes", so wouldn't pin it down. Still hopeful for improvement.
