Hello everyone,
New vaper here. I used to smoke cigs and used snus (swedish chewing tobacco) and decided to quit. That lasted 2 weeks, and then I found myself smoking clove cigs. Anyway I vape now, started with a V2 cigalike, and now I am using VV smoktech twist, with an aspire ce5. I dig it but I really wanna get into mech mods.

So that leads me into my mech mod question. I want to get decent clouds and flavour with out killing my mod with clapton coils, ect. Will hire resistant coils like 1-2 ohms require more or less ramping? Will that enable me to get more life out of my juice, and my battery? Or would I be better off in the chase of sub-ohm?

Anyway advice or even just a hello is appreciated.

Lol. If your looking for clouds and lasting juice I don't think your going to get both. I currently run a v2 atlantis @ .3 ohms and it drinks juice like my hemi drinks gas. I run two 18650 batteries which have to be cycled with two fresh batteries once a day. If your attempting to blow large clouds, I would head down the sub ohm path. I prefer it and think its a superior vape. Not sure if I helped you at all, and this is just my .02 I'm sure others will be along to give you there input as well. Welcome to the forums.

The lower you go in ohms (sub ohms included) the more power you use to heat the coil, the hotter the coil can get and the more juice it will consume. I've been using 1.2 ohm coils for months and getting a really nice vape.

I would suggest getting a "regulated" mod, it's much safer than a mech. A kanger Subtank Mini would be a good next step allowing you different options. It has a build deck, and you can get the 1.5 and .5 OCC factory coils for it. A 30 watt mod will power this tank easily down to .5 ohms, but remember the lower you go the more juice will be guzzled.

From your current setup to a Subtank you should probably drop the nic level in your juice in half or more. The lower you go in ohms, the more juice consumed, the more nicotine you will ingest. Walk before you run. I would not advise a Mech Mod, get a "regulated" mod.

Welcome to the board. I agree entirely you're not going to get clouds while conserving juice. You get one or the other, but not both. I further suggest you stay away from mech mods until you know a good bit more about how varying resistances and changing power affect the vape in your hand. I think you really ought to start with a regulated mod and figure out what wattage and resistance you want to vape before even looking at a mech mod. It is entirely possible what you want to do can not be attained with a mech; they are far more limited than regulated mods. Take a hard lok at the Kanger Subox kit; it comes with a moderately powerful mod-- as powerful as anything you can safely get from a 1-battery mech-- and has a subohm tank that you can test and compare cloud verses juice consumption. Further, while vaping a tank with factory coils is possible on a mech, it generally doesn't work too well. Most mekkies build their own coils as this is the only means of controlling the vape on a mech. The tank that comes with the Subox has an RBA deck so you can get started with that, too.

I would echo what others have said and highly suggest a regulated device. Mechanical mods require a fair amount of knowledge to use safely, with a regulated device it takes out a lot of the guesswork while giving you incredibly useful safety features. A year or so ago, to get massive clouds you pretty much had to go the mechanical route however nowadays there are so many regulated options that it's the clear choice unless you are a hobbyist or are dead-set on a mech.

Man ton a responses.. Thank you everyone.

I know I can't have both worlds. I was more looking for insight into middle of the two worlds. My interest in mechanical mods is mostly because my work is blue collar and I wanted something stout. I wasn't really planning on doing this until I knew more, did more research and had a fair grasp of what I was doing. I just wanna see what other people are doing to find the middle road.

Yea Im finding that I am not a huge fan of PG... My local shop has their own brand which is a 50/50 blend. so much nicer. Anyway I am taking what everyone is telling me to heart. I hate the feel and look of box mods, so I did a quick search and I found this

Advanced Kits

Seems versatile as it goes to 50watts and is sub ohm capable. So I'll keep looking around. I appreciate the feed back.

I agree with everyone above. If you are new to "mods" or APV's (advanced personal vaporizers), a regulated mod is the way to go because of the built-in protective circuitry. You won't have to worry as much about short circuits and battery safety like you might in a mechanical mod.

If you are dead-set (no pun intended) to get a mechanical mod anyway, be sure to get one of the "safer" ones. I recommend the AltSmoke Silver Bullet. It has a recessed side fire button which will not auto fire in your pocket like many bottom fire mods can. It has adequate venting through its specially designed fire button. It is American made (generally means higher quality) so in the unlikely event that it needs repair you can send it to Altsmoke (not an option for a China made mod). If you choose to make your Silver Bullet a "regulated mod", it will accept a Kick if you get the Silver Bullet battery extension tube.
