HI Everyone!
I'm very glad to have become part of this vaping Community. I believe that it
is in great part thru these digital communities that we vapers will & are
able to enjoy a completely new & healthier lifestyle, share both our
discoveries, enjoyment & hopes for the future, both vaping related &
otherwise.
And also, and perhaps even more important, band together to fight the
ignorance, Big Pharma & Big Oil related efforts to quash something based not
on Facts or concern for Public Health, but because of $$$, greed & their
membership in the Brotherhood of Evil or CIST (AKA: Corporate International
System of Tyranny). Here & so many other places in the digital world, we can become more aware,
knowledgeable, organized, galvanized, & vaporize the opposition!
OK, rant off, onto me. I began smoking in Cairo, Egypt when I was almost 20.
Going thru a very stressful time, I broke down one day & accepted a carton of
cigarettes from a local; I still don't pretend to understand it completely
but for some odd reason everywhere I went I would end up being accosted by a
local who wanted to give me cigarettes; whether it be a pack or carton - &
no, not to sell; they were giving them to me (?????). SO one day, 6 weeks
into my stay, I accepted a carton & started smoking these long but
(eventually) elegant & tasty cigs. They relaxed me & it didn't hurt that at
the time you could smoke everywhere in Egypt. Mvie theaters, restaurants,
trains....
Thru most of my life I was very active; biking all year round, martial arts,
tennis, jogging...so smoking didn't affect my lungs & overall health as much
as someone who isn't particularly active. Still though, by the late 90's I
began wanting to quit. By 2000 I was down to ~10 cigs/day.
Then I broke my back in a climbing accident & became paraplegic (L3 SCI;
paralyzed from the waist down, I travel about in a manual wheelchair.
Anyway, out the window my plans to quit smoking!!! Until much later in 2009
when I was getting sick & tired of smoking & now I WAS certainly feeling the
ill effects of smoking as I was not active at all anymore in the same way I
was before. SO I tried & I tried, from patches to the small white
inhalers...nothing worked - well, not quite; I was quit for nearly 2 months &
was taking things slowly; the fact that my world had become exponentially
smaller, being handicapped actually helped as I was in little to no social
situations where the temptation to smoke abounds...then one day I told
someone who was visiting & they went from noticing nothing to letting the cat
out of the bag & phoning someone who told everybody in the space of 10
minutes. I couldn't believe it! He completely jinxed me. After that, I was
back to smoking within 2 weeks just like before.
Time passes & it's X-Mas 2012. My brother asks me to get him an Electronic
Cigarette Kit. "Hmmmm", I thought " I've been hearing about t hose...I'll get
myself a kit as well, see what the fuss & facts about these are all about!"
It took me 2 weeks of fussing about, keeping the e cig close about me & then
one day, a Sunday afternoon I was getting the hang of it & suddenly using it
for hours at a time. Then by instinct I reached for an analog & on my 2nd or
3rd drag went "Eurghhhhh....YUCK!!!" My head spun around my eyes widened as I
now had the ecig in my hand, vaping it I realized that I had suddenly quit
smoking!!! Cigarettes were now essentially gross & disgusting to me & the
alternative I had was sweet, fun & leaving me healthier, better rested & in a
state of shock that I had actually quit smoking. It's funny; I still have the
last pack of cigs from mid-January with one cig left in it in my bedside
table's inside compartment. At first it was psychological. Now it's more
symbolic.
That's how I started vaping. I love it. And I'm proud to be part of a world-
wide community dedicated to fighting for their right to be healthier &
happier vs. Global Evil Interests & some who are just plain ignorant, jealous
& mean-spirited.
And so we Vape, Educate (& Explore), Illuminate & Love (We are a VEIL to
cover the lies). And love can be fierce, as I am a Fierce Avid Vaper
Everywhere! I am FAVE! And I welcome each opportunity when someone gets upset
with me in the bus or movie theater, to educate, expose & help to make E
Cigarettes less mysterious & better known & understood.
I look forward to getting to know all of you as time goes by!
Best,
Karmick
