I have noticed that the top cap threads on my Griffin are just barley crooked. Nothing major doesn't effect how the Griffin performs at all. I just notice that when I line up my air ole with my wick that I can see more O-ring on one side than the other. I think it's just my OCD that makes me notice it. Other than that I'm loving my Griffin. Just ordered another to try out the larger air hole:) Heck I made my order at 930pm last night and my order has already shipped!!:):) Thanks Eric you are the man!!

I'm still trying to get mine to wick properly. Oxidized the living crap out of the wick, still get shorts sometimes, but more commonly when its not wicking properly. The mesh that came pre installed with mine didnt seem to wick very good, so i said alright, ill try my own. #400 mesh came a day or two later, installed it, and im still having trouble trying to get it to wick well. It will wick alright off and on with a full tank, but after a while it just doesnt wick. Nastttty terrrrrible burned hits. Hopefully somebody has some advice to get this thing working like it should. However, I will say this. When this thing works, my god its awesome. Best flavor and Nic devilery of any wicking types ive had. 18mg juice, and i normally use 24-30mg and i was getting nic highs after just a couple puffs. Flavors amazing. But as it stands i pretty much have to directy drip juice onto the mesh/coil to get any non-dry hits.

With oxidizing the mesh, i did it how ive read, butane torch and water burn x3, ejuice burns afterwards to get a nice carbon layer, and id repeat these steps as much as necessary. When i rolled it, i rolled it around a small paperclip. Also, I've tried using cheesecloth for wicking as well in these, and it still didnt wick good with cheesecloth either, so i dont know wth.

How big is your ss wick? I know that if I make my wick really thick and it fits tight in the wick hole that it wicks slower. I also leave the fill screw out for better circulation. I noticed that when I have a thick wick that plugs the wick hole I can't just drip juice into the fill hole. If i have a slightly thinner wick that has a little play in the wick hole, I can drip juice into the fill hole and it'll just fall into the tank. Better air circulation I think or something. With the slightly smaller wick it seems to pull the juice easier from the tank. Still have to tip it but not constantly. Also fiddle with the coils once it's connected and move them on the wick might help a bit. You'll want to do dry burns before you put juice in so you can see that all your coils are getting red evenly. Dry burning won't hurt the ss mesh, if anything it helps to oxidize further. Hope that helps a little;) I'm sure I skipped somethings Sorry. Let me know and I'll try to fill in the blanks if any;)

As a note one can season the heck out of the stainless but your only getting a fine layer of carbon on it to insulate, if the coil is wrapped to tight it can break that barrier just like ones finger nails adjusting the coil and scraping the mesh. The slightest break in the carbon layer can create a short. One can fire in quick bursts the coil and its fine but a little longer the coil may turn red thats an indication its shorting and burning way to hot and burning the e-liquid.

Im fortunate as im not having any problems and have made 3 coils so far to experiment as i have no ohm meter but now i measure the kanthal according to a ohm measurement chart i posted courtesy of Tom Cat to get in the ballpark of what is best for me.
Good luck.

Sandy i sent you a video it explains the DID which the griffin is a clone of.
Scott in the video shows it apart and how to put together and season and install the wick.

Thank you, Dies :) You rock.
But oy vey, it's 15 minutes. The longest instructional video I've watched was 3 minutes. I guess us old folks have no patience for videos.

that's why so many swear by the ss/cotton combo ....

ok, so ,took the mesh out, rerolled it, oxidized, and wrapped a 2 ohm kanthal coil on it, no shorts at all for once, atleast so far. Wicking seems a little better, still a little harsh, might try widening the hole in the top cap a bit, maybe some more air mixture will help some. So far its doing a bit better, or maybe im just getting a bit better at it. However, i may very well try that cotton method when i go to make a new coil with it to see how it fairs.

My thing with the cotton/ss combo is.....why not just go full cotton, whats the point of the ss mesh if you're putting cotton around it anyway? I dunno, was just wondering. I mean, the cotton INSIDE the mesh i kinda get, harder to burn the cotton, but over the mesh just kinda confuses me.

The hit will mellow out after a bit, or at least it did for me. My wick started @ ~1.25" wide & was rolled around a large paper clip, so it's nice and hollow. It fits into the hole loosely. Make sure your wire isn't wrapped too tightly around the mesh. You might try the rolling paper method that Rip Tripper uses if you need to evenly gauge your spacing from the coil.

Try leaving the fill hole plug out. Surprisingly leak resistant this way unless left laid down for a while.

As far as oxidizing the wick, try adding a teaspoon of baking powder (corn starch and baking soda) mixed well in a small glass of hot water.

Oh Sandy im as old and probably older. ; )

I hear the bigger the airhole the more vapor an less on throat hit similar to what was posted here, mine is still original but will try it as several more clones coming shortly in near future.

Big D, yes sir the fill hole plug left out mellows it out some and i prefer it this way as i have not expanded the airhole, the next batch is suppose to have the 1.5 mm hole im curious to see how it compares to now.

Really think the 1.5mm hole should be about perfect Dieseler. If I had to do it again, I'd have used the same size bit as the hole (1mm?) and just reamed the hole out a little at a time.

Once my others come in, I'm going to experiment with the cap I drilled out. Plan on drilling another 1/16" hole below the existing one and poke a needle hole in each through the same metal duct tape I have on it now. Purpose being I notice wick burns a little hotter directly across from the single hole. Thinking two smaller holes may get the entire coil in the game.

I drilled mine out a little with a 3/64th bit and it made all the difference in the world. Also I watched the video Z-ATTY-PRO Rebuildable Atomizers For ProVari - YouTube! on the Z-Atty Pro and followed some of the suggestions given, such as vape horizontally and take slower, but longer draws. Zen has some good suggestions as far as setting up the coil and really how these things work. I can't justify the costs for his product , but the Griffin is great.
