Hi,
My name is Eoghan. I started working in a bar when I was 15 and began smoking while I worked, not really sure why, I guess I thought I was cool for cats. Over the next 17 years I tried to quit using patches, gum, Zynan, Champix and cold turkey. The only one which worked was Zyban but I had to come off the tablets after a month as I couldn't handle the mood swings and was back on the smokes fairly quickly.

Late last year I decided I was going to try & go cold turkey again on the 1/1/13 but I didn't really think I would be off them longer than a couple of days. On new years eve I bought a rechargeable cigalike, had heard a bit about them but didn't really know what to expect. Day 1 went ok but the battery on the cigalike wasn't great & I started to get really irritated at having to recharge it so often & I was tearing through the cartridges. After some reading and searching I found a website that offered collection near where I live & I bought a provari mini, 2 mini novas, 60 ml's of menthol juice and a few batteries which I picked up that evening. It was kind of expensive but I'm saving 140 euro a week by not smoking so I have recouped the initial outlay already. I love my setup and don't think I will ever go near a cigarette again, it feels strange writing that as I thought I would die a smoker.

A couple of questions:
I was in the smoking area at work today (I still take my smoke breaks even though I vape in my cubicle because I'm a slacker) and I felt a warm sensation in my pocket, figured it was just my imagination but after a few seconds it was still there and felt hotter so I reached in and it was my spare 18350 (I always carry a charged backup) and it was really hot. I dropped it and kicked it behind a metal barrier, I didn't check back on it so I've no idea if it exploded/melted/cooled back down. My Keys & phone were in my pocket, the keys have a fairly strong magnet on them. Anyone know if the batteries can be affected by magnets or what caused the battery to just start heating up?

I got some different flavoured juices & if I change juices I give the mini nova a bit of a wash but it still tastes of the old juice for a while. Anyone know a good way what I should be using to clean it so that it doesn't keep the taste of the old juice?

Thanks,
Eoghan

Hi,
My name is Eoghan.

...I thought I would die a smoker.

Powerful words for us all to consider. I know reading that part right there was enough to give me a chill. Congratulations on quitting AND a great first post! I applaud you, sir.

But to your questions: Not sure about magnets (but I'm sure someone here would know) but isn't it possible that the battery was shorting out against your keys?

To clean, I follow these instructions: A PBusardo Tutorial - Vivi Nova Cleaning & Rebuilding

Welcome to the forums and stick with it!

Welcome to ECF. You should keep your batteries either in an empty pocket or in a carrying case. This is the most likely cause of it shorting out and getting hot on you.

As far as nova vivi tank cleaning I can't help you there as I have never used one. The tank I use on my Inferno is just rinsed wiped and left to sit for while. As I have 2 tanks I can leave one soaking or sitting to dry while I'm using one.

The battery was likely shorting out because of contact with metal in your pocket. You may have discovered it in time from going into thermal runaway (exploding or venting gas by popping its ends off).

I had a battery do this when the power switch on my mod was compressed in the on position while in my pants pocket in my locker at work. Despite being a "protected" battery, it blew its caps and melted the plastic insulation covering of the battery. When I found the mod, it was too hot to touch. Below is a lousy pic of it beside a normal battery of the same type:

You best bet is to get a plastic battery case to carry your spare batteries safely on your person: Battery Cases
