Hey everyone, first I want to say thanks to all the people who make this forum so useful. I really hate that I didn't find it sooner. My wife has been trying to quit smoking for a while, and started with the gas station disposable ecigs, then moved on to Blu. Unfortunately that's where she stayed for way too long. Like, multiple years too long...

It's an ok place to start. She liked the flavor and it satisfied the need when she had good cartridges. But she often had issues with dud cartridges and batteries crapping out, and smoking analogs at work because of weak battery/cartridge life. It was expensive. For whatever reason, what very little I knew about refillable carts just sounded like it could be too much of a hassle. I just in the past few months figured out how very wrong I was.

I finally looked into it a little and ended up picking up a starter kit for her at a local shop with a 900mah ego c2 pass-through with redux clearomizer and she loved it instantly. Since then I've spent quite a bit of time Googling (which almost always leads me here) and watching Youtube vids from Grimmgreen, Rip Trippers, PBrusardo and a few others, learning a TON about a vape world I never knew existed. I even enjoyed puffing on her ego from time to time, so I grabbed an ego twist and a couple Kanger t3s clearomizers. She's not really into everything involved, but just wants something that works. But now I've found myself really interested in going further trying out some things that she might also like more.

So onto a couple questions... First, I definitely want to try some DIY juice, and have found several sites with some juice supplies, as well as an older list or two on here. Is there any general consensus as to where to go for quality flavor extracts or is it pretty much just luck of the draw finding what you like, as with premixed juices?

As far as making the next step, I'm not quite ready for expensive mods or separate batteries and chargers just yet, but was wondering what might be the best I could get out of an ego. I'm still not totally sure of which thread types are used by which. Are the larger tanks and mods mostly 510, so like the Protank 2/3 would fit with an ego inner threading? Or are they different? If so, would the ego be strong enough to get good vapor and hit from the larger or should I just try a Protank mini or similar for an ego?

I'm interested in trying to make my own coils at some point in the near future. I'm thinking my first one I'll probably try a micro on a Protank 2 or mini, from watching Grimm and Rip. I understand all of the building steps, but one thing I'm unclear about is the wattage. Seems like all of the build videos I've seen use power that's way in the red of the voltage charts I've found around here, and beyond the voltage of these egos. Is that just because the chart is really more for cheap manufactured coils and a good quality DIY coil with cotton can withstand much more or is there something else I'm missing? Also, would a good rebuild of a Protank/mini or similar still be significantly better vape on an ego, or in the green area on the chart (3.5-4v/7-10w)?

Sorry so wordy, but thanks again to the community for the help already received. A couple months ago I wouldn't understand most of what I just typed. :p

Yes an ego style battery will accept all 510 atomizers, such as the Aspire, iclears 30's protank, and all the ego threaded one also that use the exterior threads.

On non regulated battery, one adjust the ohms of the build to achieve the desired watts they want to vape at. the lower the ohms the more watts burned at the coil. For and ego, would shoot for the 1.5-2.2 ohm range till you find what you like.

I buy all my DIY juice supplies from wizards lab, Nic base, VG, PG, flavorings, and lab ware. I basically pick flavor extracts that sound good and then develop a recipe for them. DIY juice is fun, fairly easy, and provides a great way to get the juice you want. It would be best to know what kind of juice and ratios you like before hand, so you know better what you want to buy. Make sure to go through the DIY juice section for tips a tricks.

That being the case, I'm thinking I'll go for the protank 3. Something a little bigger that can transfer to a first mod if/when I decide to try one out. I'm not sure I'll care much for the dual coil, but I may as well try it since it can also take the PT2 coils and is about the same price.

I've been using the t3s around 3.5-3.8v to be safe. I don't have anything to check with, but the Kanger site says it's 2.2ohm. Much over 4v and I get a little burnt taste pretty quickly. I just wasn't sure exactly why the rebuilds were aiming for or able to go so far into the red. For example, going by some voltage charts, if I had a 1.7ohm, I should vape around 7-8.5w to be in the green area, but then I see a micro coil rebuild vaping a twice that. So I'm assuming it's just the quality/material used in the rebuild that makes the green/red areas of the voltage chart not scale the same way for them.

I have a 20/80 pg/vg that I kinda like, so I'll probably try something that's VG heavy. She likes a harder hit and I like more vapor so I'll have plenty of playing around to do to find things we both like. I was looking at madvapes.com and started to order a couple things, but then realized they were sold out of most of their flavors, heh. Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely have a lot to consider. May as well plan on buying some extra supplies and a kit to keep it all in.

Greetings, welcome to the forum, sounds like you're off to a fine start at vaping.

- to the best of my knowledge, many or most of the full-sized clearos (not the Minis) have 510 threading, and will be fine on your eGo. For my part, eGo batteries were ok when I started vaping, but I wasn't able to quit smoking until I got an APV with enough power to produce thicker, more satisfying clouds of vapor.

- after building micro/nano coils, some people do go right off the charts with wattage settings, but you'll find your own 'sweet spot.' For my RBAs, with coils built generally between 1.2 and 1.8 oHms, I rarely go higher than 7 or 8 watts. Could go higher, but that's the setting where I find I enjoy my vaping the best.

Thanks! And yeah, I've soaked up a pretty good bit from watching videos and following Google links here when I had specific questions about something I watched.

Funny thing actually, I'm an ex-smoker for a little over 10 years. I enjoyed puffing on my wife's Blu cigs now and then, and tried out her ego when I bought it for her. I enjoyed that enough to want to get one for myself. Might sound silly to those using vaping as a means to work their way off of smoking altogether, but I'm sure there are many out there who are into it would probably keep vaping for years after getting used to 0mg. I started looking into it for options for her, but found something I might actually enjoy as a hobby. Who knew? I still like the feeling, and the visual of blowing out the clouds. Not so much the feelings of the nicotine intake if I puff a few too many times, lol. So I'll definitely be looking into low or 0mg juices for myself as well.

So for me personally, I'd prefer a lighter throat hit, and good vapor and flavor. I'm sure I'll keep the watts low even if I can build a good micro. And don't expect to see me on Youtube blowing big lung hits. :D

Right now, the vapor is definitely a huge bump from the Blu, but I'm still working on finding some flavors I love. She really likes a couple cherry flavors we found, but they kinda taste like medicine to me.

I also get my stuff from wizard labs. Take some time to plan out a list of what you want. Last time I ordered it was free shipping for orders over 65, I'm pretty sure that's the norm for them. My few 2 cents on DIY is: order your nic in a practical strength, like 24mg, so if you have a bad math moment you have strong liquid, not hazardous liquid that 100mg can be. Unless you want a higher vg mix get your nic based in pg. I do an all vg mix and vg is annoying to measure out with a syringe. Get yourself a couple extra 1ml syringe to avoid mixing flavor concentrates and if your already at wiz labs get yourself a tfa black cherry. It's a very versatile flavor.

Thanks for the tips. I would prefer higher nic level, just to give more diluting from one bottle. But don't worry, I've already been playing around with ideas on ejuice me up calculator for a week or so. I was all set to go ahead and order some stuff, but then wizard showed out of stock on almost all of their 120ml nic juices, and I don't want to spend the extra on 250ml or order that much for my first experimenting. I'll probably spend $35ish total for a handful of flavors and bottles/syringes.

Are the needles necessary for getting into the smaller bottles? And if so, is there one gauge I could use, or should I get multiple for the different liquid thicknesses?
