Introduction and a few questions about MOD's / MVP 2?

So I ended up getting into vaping around September of last year to get off analogs. I was pretty surprised how much vaping subsided my cigarette cravings. Needless to say I haven't smoked a cigarette since October 1st 2013.

I first started out with an over priced $60 kit from my local vape shop. I then started buying different tanks (Protank 2, iClear30). From there I purchased the MVP 2 for $40 off ebay (which I should have done in the first place). And I just recently bought a Smoke Tech RSST and built my own coil.

Now for the questions...

I currently have the SmokeTech RSST on my MVP 2 - It's running 1.3 ohms at 4.5 volts. I've noticed with this setup that the flavor of the liquid is much better than the other tanks I've had. The thing that is bothering me is that I have to hold to fire button on the MVP 2 down for a few seconds before I can start vaping, otherwise I get little to no vapor. Is this normal? I was watching a few Youtube videos of people using SmokeTechs RSST and it seemed like they were getting vapor as soon as they hit the fire button. I was getting vapor right away with my other tanks.

Now that I've been using the MVP 2 for a little while I feel I'm ready to move on...

Would I notice much of a difference using a mechanical mod on the setup I have now? Would this solve the delay issue when I fire?

One thing I do love about the MVP 2 is the battery life. Is there a MOD that gets comparable battery life to the MVP 2?

If you could recommend a cheaper MOD that has relatively good battery life to get me started, what would it be?

Thanks for the help! :vapor:

the delay may be from the gauge wire you are using. 28 gauge kanthal is beefy wire and does take a bit to heat up on regulated devices (most regulated devices have a low amp limit to protect the batteries and 1.3 ohm is the low end of most allowed resistances - low ohm builds are mainly for cloud chasers - I use mainly 30 and 32 gauge in the 2 ohm range and get great flavor and adequate clouds along with prolonged battery life

mech mods don't monitor your battery - they also start strong (4.2 volts) and then start fading almost immediately

the most recommended mod is a Provari - it will last as long as you do (get the 18650 bottom cap for longer battery life) definitely worth the $$$
next would be the sigelei zmax3 telescopic (you can fit most batteries in it) but it uses a 33.3 chip in it so you may get a rattlesnake effect on lower ohm builds (down to 1.3 ohm)

congrats on getting off the stinkies and welcome to the ECF

I'm going to echo Dakota Jim regarding the gauge wire you are using. What gauge wire, what resistance? Changing batteries is not likely to help that much, but changing your build probably will.

I don't know of many mods that will last as long (battery wise) as an MVP, but most do have the removable 18650 and you can carry a spare around in a battery case if you need more.

Someone was telling me about a mod he ordered that takes 2 18650s or something like that. I haven't seen it yet, and I'm quite sure it's more expensive than a provari. Wish I could remember the name of it...

Thanks for the advice! I've looked into the Provari's, but I really don't want to spend that much and I like the unrestrictive capabilities of a mech mod.

I'm currently using 28 gauge wire. I really like the big cloudy vapes, but battery life is equally as important. What do you think about the setup that I listed above from bevapehappy?

Do some homework on that kit. Im no expert on any of this and I think I saw someone else ask about that same kit in a different thread here on ECF. From what they were saying there was something wrong with the batteries. Im not saying don't get it just that you should maybe study up on it some.

Well I went to order it, but it's out of stock at the moment.
