Hello, all. My name is Drew, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this site. I'm not exactly new to vaping -- I picked up some brand or another a while back. I used it until my cartridges ran out, and just never got around to buying more. I have a "pen style" e-cig that I bought at a mall. It definitely seemed like something that could help me reduce or quit smoking, but I didn't have any real desire to quit back then. Now I do, and I'm looking for some advice.

I'm thinking that I'll probably need two vaping devices -- one for work and another for home use, but I might be wrong about that. So here's the thing: at work, I really enjoy taking smoking breaks, and it's been very useful for meeting people in other departments, and making connections that have been helpful in getting new positions, etc. So I still want to go outside with the smokers. But...I don't want to have to explain my e-cig every time I do, so I'd want something that looks real enough not to draw attention from a casual glance. But to actually get me off regular cigarettes, I think I'd need an option with a high "throat kick."

For my work device, my initial research here has led me to think that one of the following devices might do the trick: m403, KR808 (Vapor King), or DSE084. What I'm looking for is something that will look enough like a real cigarette to avoid as many questions as possible, paired with a decent throat kick. Price is also a factor, but very much secondary to the other two. So, in order of importance: looks real, high kick, price. Does it sound like I'm on the right track with the three options I've identified? Are there any other devices I've overlooked that might serve my purposes better?

For the "at home" device, I'd purely want the highest kick possible. All other factors are secondary, although battery life/availability of a pass-through would be important. I'm thinking the Screwdriver or 510 here, but I haven't looked at this one as much as the work device.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi There

No one is going to be keen on answering your questions boon, for a couple of reasons.

In general most vapers dont want their ecig to resemble a real cigarette. We all want our respective Governments to sanction them, and something resembling a cigarette, isnt the way to get that done.

Secondly you are asking for the perfect ecig... if it existed, we would all be vaping it.

Choice is very much down to the individual, so Im afraid you will need to spend some time, watch reviews, and read the comments etc., and do some research yourself to see what is right for you.

Throat hit...

This isnt just down to the ecig you buy. Throat hit comes from a combination of ecig and juice, flavour and nicotine strength, so again, you have to have spend some time reading up the information on this on the forum.

My advice would be, dont start with a high juice.

If you smoke around 20 cigarettes a day, then maybe try a juice around 11 - 14 mg.

Good Luck with the research.

First, I have to disagree with starting with low nicotine strenth juice. You stated throat hit was important. The higher the nic strength along with the power of the batteries is what gives you better, more consistent throat hit.

Second, you can always decrease but cannot increase it. I would suggest getting a small bottle of juice in 24mg and a small bottle of the same juice in 11mg. If the 24 is too high, just mix it with the 11mg until you get the strength that works best for you.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance and reliability

Third, I can only suggest MANUAL switch PV's unless you like frustration and inconsistency. The two that look the closes to the real thing (for at work) but are still manual are the Joye 510 and the manual (not auto) DSE901.

Your thought about getting a premiere device also is a good idea. They provide the best throat hit, consistency and battery life. 5-8 hours of battery life on a charge plus the batteries cost $2 instead of $13-$20 for the small PV's. Here are some reputable suppliers to consider:

Christena, I'm actually not asking for the perfect e-cig. I'm asking for suggestions about two devices that fulfill specific requirements.

Work e-cig:
1. Needs to look like a real cigarette
2. The higher the throat kick, the better
3. The cheaper, the better

Home e-cig:
1. Highest throat kick possible
2. The longer the battery life, the better

I mean, it's not like I asked what device has the best throat kick, highest smoke, longest battery life, looks realistic, and is cheapest all in one. For both devices, there is a primary concern, with one or two secondary concerns. I can't believe it's impossible to identify that.

As to people not wanting to answer my question because they don't want their e-cig to look real...well...I'm not sure at all why that would be the case. Personally, I think everyone should drive fuel-efficient cars, but if I'm on a car talk forum, and someone asks for advice about the fastest car on the road, I can still answer their question, even if I don't think that's a good reason for buying a car. Know what I mean?

wv2win, thanks for the links. That's a big help, especially with the "big seven" for my home vaping device. About the 510 and DSE901, though, they're not really that realistc looking. The DSE 901 is certainly better on this point than thet 510, but it's still pretty long, and has a metal band partway down the cigarette. Really, for the work device, all I'm looking for is something that won't be noticed as much, and will give me something to tide me over during the day.

I'll definitely read more about juice in relation to how it affects throat kick. Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming!

Boondogle;
As far as your "real" looking e-cig goes;

RN4081 - DSE103 in white with orange LED, look the closest.
M401 is next, but has a red LED.

If you're going to use an SD, Prodigy, GG, etc. at home, you'll most likely have to get some ultra high nic juice for the "real" looking ones to get a hit like the big boys will give you on lower nic.

Okay, thanks.

The RN4081, DSE103, and m401 all seem to be longer than 85mm, so I'm probably going to be looking at the others for my "at work" device. Which is a shame, because the m401 was the best-looking in my opinion. Especially that dragon printed one, though that certainly wouldn't fool anyone! Still, if the e-cigarette thing works out, maybe I'll pick one up just because it's so pretty.

So, of the m403, KR808-B, and DSE084, is there any consensus on which one produces more of a throat kick (keeping in mind what was said about juice factoring into that)? Or is it going to be pretty much the same for all of them? Are the parts from any or all of them interchangeable? Any other factors that I might want to consider?

The RN-4081 actually looks a lot like a real cigarette. Don't let the length fool you. I bought one from NJoy (you can find them in several convenience stores, and are fairly cheap; work very well with a couple of simple mods), and mine gets mistaken for a real cigarette all the time (like just recently when a waitress dropped her tray of drinks because she saw me take a hit off the thing and then put it directly into my shirt pocket). The ones you buy at the store come with orange LEDs on the end and look a lot like an analog.

If you do decide to go with an RN-4081, there are tow modifications I would suggest. Neither is all that tricky:

  1. Put a small piece of scotch tape over one of the two air holes in the atomizer. Gives a better draw and more vapor with less effort.
  2. Use the Lipton pyramid tea bag mod that is discussed ad nausea (for good reason) on this forum under the Tips & Tricks section. Gives great hits and means less topping off during the work day.

Good luck!
