Greetings all! I'm RG, and here's my first post and intro.
I'm 37, and I've been a pack a day smoker for around 20 years. Like many of
you, I've tried most of the quit remedies. The gum gave me a stomach ache.
The patch worked once for a few weeks but I wound up going back. The pills
scared me. In December, my new doctor refused to give me any pills for
high cholesterol, instead insisting that I clean up my diet, go to the gym,
and quit smoking.
That was the last straw. I had many reasons to want to quit. Health,
the cost, the smell, the way coworkers treated me, my growing detest for
the 7-11 employees, standing in the cold or heat, painful airplane rides,
on and on. I had been aware for a long time that my wife continued to
smoke mainly because I was, and that hurt. It was time.
I don't remember where I first heard of the e-cigs. Somewhere along the
line not long ago I found this forum and started researching them.
I eventually put my order in for a 510 starter kit from Rocky Mountain Vapor.
Just after it arrived, I had to leave town for several days, and decided not
to try to switch while traveling. I did take it for a test spin and
found it unsatisfying. It was fun sneaking e-tokes in the bathroom on the
plan though!
When I got home and settled in, I decided on a stepwise approach. I would
take several days and replace a portion of my smoking day with the 510.
Meanwhile, I kept reading the FAQs here and elsewhere and learned how to
use it better. Tips like how to fill it, how long and softly to drag,
juice strength, and many others were helpful. I replaced all of the big
moments: first of the day, first after dinner, last one before bed, all
the while smoking analogs.
Sure enough, as the days went by, I enjoyed the smoking less and the vaping
more. I got to where I didn't want to smoke but I would to try to stick
with the system. After a couple of days of that, I started trying to go
all day with just vaping. It took 5 days. I am now in my 3rd day without
smoking!
This is getting a little long, so I'll wrap up with a few things I like
about the last couple of days. My lungs are opening up and I can breathe
better. I can smell and taste better already. I love experimenting with
the flavors, sitting at my desk (they let me vape at work,) and driving.
Mailman stalking is a new habit for me. Although it is 5 months away,
I'm already looking forward to my next doctor visit to see how the numbers
do. Finally, I'm very pleased that my wife is trying this with me. We're
having lots of fun with it.
Enough for now. Hi all, and thank you for putting together such a great
resource here! I look forward to participating with all of you.
