Hello everyone!
Brace yourselves! Long post incoming!
So, this happens to be my very first post, which means it would probably be polite to say a few things about myself first.
I'm 27, used to do some sports back in high-school, then I got into IT and picked up the bad habit of smoking that I just couldn't escape from for the past 9 years. I actually became something you could already call a 'chain-smoker' since most days I smoked 2 packs or more. Recently a friend of mine visited me and he had a pen style eGo thingy with a ce4 or something - just the cheapest, most basic thing you could prolly buy - so he let me try it and I was like... "Whoa.. wait a second.. I could actually quit smoking with this.." I mean before that I was really skeptical of these things, but yea trying it actually changed everything.
What happened after that was that I ordered 2 sets of eGo batteries + T2 style atomizers (which was 2 months ago) and I never smoked a single cigarette since
I actually started doing sports again and life is so much better now!
Right so after that I started getting interested in the subject, went on youtube, watched a bunch of reviewers (mainly indoorsmokers and pbussardo) and some random tutorials and I kinda learned all the info I could on these devices. Obviously if you see all the stuff that's out there.. you can't just keep puffing on your 'eGo'
and you want to upgrade... That lead me to order an evic VT (jumping in water, head first) from China (which still hasn't arrived yet) and all sorts of accessories for that from online stores in my country - so that I will have them once the evic gets here - including a spare tank to try on it- the Aerotank Giant - (ever wondered how one of those would look on an eGo stick? I have the picture
) it's just silly) a bunch of wires (kanthal, titanium, nickel) some CLR heads for the evic.. and so on
Also got a bit tired of waiting for the evic and not being able to use my aerotank so I got a good deal on an istick 40w TC (mod-only pack)
Here come the issues.. Obviously I instantly tried my Aerotank Giant on the istick.. which was okay I guess, but I wanted to dive into the practicalities of all of the information I learned these past few weeks. Naturally since the istick 40 is TC, my first idea was why not take the spare Aerotank dual-coil head from the box.. take it apart and replace the insides with something a bit more dramatic
Like a nickel coil for TC... So I did just that, I wired up a horizontal single-coil, which came out to 0.17 ohms and was just awesome with the istick.
What happened after that is the reason I decided to actually make this post
I was driving all day (a truck, with a colleague of mine, taking turns) and my Aerotank stopped working... istick just said 'No atomizer'. I took my tablet, looked up the issue and realized there are lots of people with similar ones, but no single common cause, rather separate issues (some had the pin stuck.. others had the coil burnt.. etc). I tried everything I could on the road.. but didn't manage to find a definite solution.
After I got home I had access to more tools, such as a multimeter... I started verifying all the scenarios I could think of.. and yea, results are in... I don't know how.. where when or what.. but when I was searching for solutions online I didn't find this information anywhere.. (I only found something close, which was someone suggesting to buy a new airflow-base to fix the issue, without knowing why it solved it).
Turns out it's actually a design flaw (my opinion only...), what happens is the airflow base is made up of 3 rings pressed together (didn't take it apart so this is just me assuming... ) What I did do however is check where the actual coil head connects.
- The positive pin connects to the small pin on the bottom of the tanks 510 connection - which in turn connects directly to the batteries center pin - No issues there whatsoever.
- However the ground of the coil head connects for the TOP ring from the airflow assembly and not the bottom one which features the 510s outer threads.
Measured the resistances and sure enough, it was over 200 so there was no chance for the istick to detect the atomizer. What I'm assuming is that once you get some e-juice / dirt / space.... / anything between the top of the base and the ring that turns to adjust airflow or somehow the assembly becomes a bit more lose (also happened to me sometimes because of expanding from heat and creating a gap) it's over from there.. randomly the connection will be cut and you get no atomizer messages
if you connect the bottom of the tank with the top of the base (even by pressing a screwdriver to the side of the tank or whatever, connecting all 3 rings) you instantly get a resistance reading and it starts working.
So yea, I'm surprised I didn't find anything about that from Kangers point of view on the internet... (I didn't look that hard thou..). But if any of you who are.. idk.. maybe doing reviews and get free aerotank giants for testing, you could always try to pump up the heat / get it dirty / etc to see if you get no atomizer messages then connecting the bottom and top of the base to see if it changes
Or by simply measuring the resistances between the points where the head connects on the inside.. and the 510 on the bottom.
But yea, even thou I kinda realize what's happening I've no way of fixing it (too tired to even try
) , so might as well buy a new tank.. or a new base for the aerotank..
BUT (and I added this part just for the silliness of it) as you probably realize... I need something to vape till then... And once you've tried tanks and mods and stuff.. you really don't wanna go back to a small fixed 3.7v eGo with a T2..
So here's my surprise for you...
) I had one more thing in my arsenal.. which was a protank mini 3 (bought it for my egos but realized they're too weak to even run that decently... so it was just sitting around)
I was tired after a long days work.. so the result isn't as cute as it could be... but once I got home I needed it fast! so I can vape.. and it's working... I created a BEAST!.
Here's my sub-ohm, temperature controlled protank mini 3, that can fill up a room with clouds in a matter of seconds
As you can see I drilled larger airflow holes but also built a chimney-style vertical 0.16 ohm nickel coil in it which allows for temperature control. It's kinda late at night and I made the video just to go along with this post, so I didn't talk at all - sorry for that.. maybe next time
But I will have to wait a while till I can afford a proper tank again (been buying too much e-cig stuff lately), so in the meantime I'm sure this 'mini' tank will come in handy
Long story short... you've a new member and this it my 'vape-story' so far.
Cheers to all!
