I know we're not supposed to spam-post to be able to use the classifieds but I am a professional lurker--and especially in a community as active and mature as this one all the questions I've come up with in the last couple of weeks were answered using the search function--so I'll try to come up with some sort of introduction.

So far it looks like my "experience" will be rather unique among the members here, since cigarettes became too expensive for me when they hit $1.75 a pack and I've been rolling my own since. The big thing in signatures seems to be how much money's been saved, but since a can of American Spirit cost $25 and generally netted me about 2 cartons I'm going to be spending more on vaping than I ever did on smoking. Oh well, the point for me was to quit for my daughter, and since the process of rolling and smoking was much more important to me than the nicotine addiction I'm actually looking to the hobby of vaping to replace the "hobby" of smoking.

I wasn't sure vaping would really work for me but I can't afford to just drop money randomly to find out, so I did about a week of research to find the cheapest option (to try) that would work best for me (if it worked out). Ended up getting a Riva 510 kit from Liberty-Flights as I seemed to hit the perfect combination of sale and discount coupon. Got the kit Saturday, by Sunday it just wasn't worth the effort to roll a cigarette. Seems to be working out so I'll call it a new hobby ;-)

Have a couple of ideas for mods, so now I'm waiting on a kit from MadVapes just to get in practice on pre-designed kit before I start going crazy...

Oh, my name's Scott :)

Welcome to the forum Scott. I agree, 99% of the questions I could ask, probably have been answered by the super members of this forum already. I might be to shy to ask the dumbest questions I have though. I bounced around from rolling to tailor made and back more than once. My signature is based on $4.50 a pack, per day of a common cheap tailor made brand here. The one thing though about roll your owns, is they didn't help my health at all. To be honest when I quit I was smoking a brand name and of course compared to that I am saving quite a bit. Don't let the fact its been answered before, stop you from getting some posts in, so you can use the rest of the forum, I think most people would understand that.

Thanks for the many welcomes :)

@classwife - Yes, I am a life-long modder. Almost everything I own has at least been opened up, if not modified in some fashion. Right now I'm actually trying to decide whether to just knock out the MadVapes 3.7 box or go ahead vv it.

@Cyatis - Living in Kentucky means cheap cigs anyway, I think Camels and Marlboros are up to around $5.50 a pack here. I haven't really kept up for the last 19 years or so. And one thing about the American Spirit is without the added chemicals all I'm really giving up is the tar and particulate matter of the smoke--they take great care to claim the tobacco is not any healthier than "normal" tobacco, but leaving out a couple thousand chemical has got to make some difference. Besides, after smoking for 27 years I *still* get doctors telling me I should quit while I "still have the lungs of a non-smoker." Going to vaping is really only giving up the tar and particulate matter, so I'm planning on weaning off the nicotine as well and eventually just vaping for the taste and as a hobby.

@player30 - I was confident I'd be happy with the Riva when I made the choice--and it's exceeded my expectations (didn't think it would be less than 24 hours to go vaping "full-time," f'rinstance). And I don't think I have to have everything everyone else has, I just think everything I have has to be different than everyone else ;-)

I cannot argue with your logic. If someone really needed an analog in the worst way, its very decent information.

That being said, I can tell you that I was in a very bad way. I'd wake up sick and choking every morning. After about a week of vaping, and one the worst weeks ever coughing up stuff I never thought possible. I now feel absolutely terrific. Its been awhile since I started that journey now, and I can tell you that you've made a terrific choice. I was very cynical when I started this as I smoked for 29 years, but now that I'm off of them, I prefer to stay that way.

Actually I think that's about the best way you can get an analog ;-)

I minimized my costs and health risks as much as possible, and tobacco just tastes a lot better without all the crap added to it. But at the end of the day it's still smoke. Typing paper doesn't have any tar or nicotine at all but rolling it in a tube and smoking it would still be unhealthy.

I'm sure it's still "unhealthy" to breathe all the chemicals in the e-juice, but it's got to smoke of any kind :)
