I am 21 years old and smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day. I realised my stupidity and so I'm trying to quit it with the help of many alternatives like Quit-x or Nicorette but in vain. A friend of mine suggested using electronic cigarette. I want know if this could be hazardous to my health in any way. Should I buy a electronic cigarette (order a free trail)?
What do you think?

Well I wouldn't throw it at someone ;) Welcome to ECF!

Don't order a free trial you are going to be very sorry. I can't speak medically of the health risks but personally after 1 1/2+ years of vaping I feel great and have had no ill effects. If you are truly interested I suggest you use this resource you have found ECF and do some research. There are always risks involved with anything you do so get educated first.

When you are ready to start there are great deals on kits out there and I'm sure lots of recommendations from experienced users. I think the standard starter kit is an ego type battery with cartomizers.

definitely skip the free trial. those are rip offs. my suggestion would be to start with one of the 808 kits like bloog or volt (smokeless image).

the question you should be asking is whether ecigs are /less/ harmful than cigs. the safest course is to quit completely, but for some of us that's not an option. patches, gum and drugs are a waste of money.

Fiason,

Of course it's "harmful" we're injesting nicotine. As harmful as smoking 2 PAD I'd venture to say no. Will it help you kick the smoking habit? More than likely if you think of it as an alternative to burning paper and tobacco and adjust your lifestyle accordingly. There is a very different set of rules and routines associated with Pv usage. But, if you're willing to change a bit you can be very sucessful with vaping.

This may help you to decide whether or not to try a "free" trial. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/65772-do-not-order-free-trials.html

I agree with the others. We still don't know everything about ecigs especially the lasting effects. However the fact that a cigarette has over 4000 chemicals and carcinogens and the liquid we vape uses either PG, VG, or a combination of both, nicotine, and flavorings you can see how many fewer chemicals we consume.

Food grade PG is used in inhalers and some foods as well as fog machines. Nicotine is addictive and can be poisonous especially in large quantities. However nicotine is not the cancer causing demon we are led to believe. Nicotine is similar to caffeine and is a stimulant but it also restricts the blood flow. There are studies showing pros and cons for using nicotine.

All that being said I would much rather vape the equivalent of water vapor with nicotine then smoke a cigarette with carbon monoxide plus all those other chemicals.

Use this forum there is a plethora of knowledge and as I like to tell people Google is your friend.

Good luck, welcome, and here's to a smoke free life.

I smoked for 45 + years. I've been vaping for almost 5 months. I can walk up stairs without getting winded. My blood pressure is lower, my weight has dropped (many people put on weight when quiting analogs, I lost!) I've had to take drugs for acid reflux for 7 years. If I skipped 1 night taking the pills I paid for it by gagging on acid in the middle of the night. I no longer have to take the pills...doctor approved. If it is somehow not healthy, it's gotta be healthier than smokes. I am in a lot better shape than I was 5 months ago. I daily thank God that I found ecigs. YMMV

I'm not a doctor, however I am also 21 and I can honestly say that since switching to an ecig I have never felt better. Sure, it takes a while to get used to and it is a new technology, hence the lack of empirical support for vaping, but the forum is an excellent resource for both learning about vaping and for keeping up with all the developments.

best of luck with whatever you decide to do. Cheers.

No one can tell you what risks may or may not be involved .. as well, to quit analogs, you must be ready to quit .. nothing will work until your mind is ready .. and what helps one person quit may not help another ..

The e-cig journey is not like just picking up something and using it .. I and many others have spent a good amount of money to find what works for us ..

But it was worth it .. good luck to you ..

I work in nursing and our facility went smoke free. Our doctors are recommending the use of E-cigs to the patients and me and my GF have converted over half of the smokers here over to e-cigs. Basically, everyone who has bought and tried one, have made the switch and love it. Course, us shoving good liquids from NLV and LX at them has helped. I think what hurts a lot of people is that they first try and E-cig with the nasty pre-filled junk they come with and they never experience how good they can be with a good liquid in them.

Anyway, basically, I'm saying that the medical community (at least the part I'm exposed to) sees them as a much safer alternative. And damn it, they just taste so much better, they're cheaper, and they don't make you stink!!!!

Are there any health dangers with vaping? Probably, other than nicotine use there may be some other issues that we're not aware of, but I don't know.

Are there any health dangers with cigarettes? Yes, definitely, 100%. If you continue to smoke for the rest of your life, they WILL kill you. No ifs, buts or maybes, they will definitely kill you. It may be as a 40 year old who develops lung cancer, it may be as a 70 year old choking to death in bed with emphysema, but they will kill you.

Make your choice, obviously the perfect scenario is no nicotine at all, but if you need nicotine, I know which way I'd be heading.

You may be right.
The way I see it if you vape and smoke even a few cigarettes less it is still better. This isn't like any other method of quitting. I smoked 3 or four cigarettes two or times a week while paddling. The rest of the pack would sit next to me in my truck and I rarely felt like lighting up. This went on for about a year. Eventually I fixed up a water proof case with foam that fits in my PFD pocket and stopped. It's not like if you have one you are starting all over again. Because you are still getting your nicotine fix and basically doing the same thing. Except that vaping tastes better.
