Well, some learn faster than others, some learn slower. It just matters what your comfortable with. I'm sure some people have progressed faster and some slower and some are just comfortable with where they are at. I don't think it matters as long as your happy and comfortable with where your at and what your doing. I think everyone learns at there own pace what ever that pace may be and some take it farther than others . Some don't wish to get into different things and that's ok too. As for me, I like to learn new things and want to progress and move foward. But I'm learning at my own pace too. Abut two months ago I started out on a cigalike, moved to a ego, started learning more now I'm making my own juice, building RDAs and RBA and rebuilding with wire mesh and making micro coils to go into my nemisis clone with my kracken atty. But I still have so much more to learn. But for me, it's not yet been two months so I'm not sure if I'm learning quickly or slowly but I do know I'm learning. I think all that matters is if a person is happy where they are.I guess I'm the type like you who jumps right in but it doesn't matter how fast or slow, as long as your happy that's what matters.I know for me there is so much more I want to learn! But some are perfectly fine sticking with the ego. And that's ok too as long as they are happy.

I first started vaping the first week of February 2014 since my 18th birthday was January 31st and I started with an ego and currently I am now sub ohming on an m16

I have to ask. What does running a coil below 1 ohm have to do with knowledge of vaping and staying away from cigarettes?

Not to burst your bubble but as long as whatever you are doing keeps you away from the analogs that is all that counts.

I still use a Halo G6 setup, along with many other Mods and tanks. In fact I just got a new Mod and 2 new tanks today along with 3 new liquids. But what counts is I haven't had a cigarette. I also helped someone I work with get started vaping and hopefully off the analogs.

Best of luck to you, stay cigarette free and safe.

I dug into what happened right after my first throat ripping metallic hit I got from a brand new CE4 head. After I figured out the mechanics of the coils I began to DIY them and from there went into rebuilding them. That was almost a year ago and have had nothing but top shelf vape quality since. It took me less than a month to get into DIY and rebuilding, now I just vape protanks since they are the easiest to rebuild and I'm nothing short of HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY with them.

I think what turned me quickly to mechs and dripping quicker than most is one my friends that brought me to get my first ego starter kit after being convinced that I was off cigarettes (my 6th week), put the same juice I had in my protank mini and let me vape it off his set up. The difference was night and day so I wanted to progress faster and the little nerd in me kept saying go go go...you can do it. Some of the people I know are still using the same starter ego kits and they are content and it's working for them. I'm lucky I guess because I had proper guidance and people showing me how to do things up close and how to do them safely. I still use my Egos and an itaste vvv3 when I'm at work or running around town, but I do enjoy a good dripping session after a nice dinner or I'm hanging around with my friends. Do I think it's amazing when they chuck huge thick clouds of smoke. Hell yes!!! but just because you can doesnt mean you have to all the time. I'm also very happy at running coils at around .8 ohms, 1.2, even at 1.8 if it gives me a good flavorful relaxing vape and keeping me of cigarettes. :vapor:

The real question is "What have you learned?"

Anyone can pick up a mech mod, spend 30 minutes in a vape shop watching someone wrap a coil, or watch some YouTube videos on sub-ohm builds be "sub-ohming". I not implying this is you. However this does describe many of the posters to this site wanting to get into rebuildables.

So when you ask the question "Is it just me or did I progress pretty quickly?" None of us can answer that question until you tell us what you've learned.

...The real question is "What have you learned?"...

+1

It reminds me of my cousin. He was a spoiled brat! He didn't learn anything! I tried teaching him the right thing about the differences of certain drugs. However, he ended up in rehab, 'cause he didn't listen, and didn't agree with my opinion. However, years after, he told me:"...I should have listen to your advice...".

Define progress.

By your definition youre further along than me and Ive been vaping on and off since 2009. October will be 2 years completely cigarette free for me.

Thats the only progress Im concerned with.

I have no interest in blowing clouds of smoke or sub ohming. My Provari and my carto tanks are enough for me and I have absolutely zero need to make vaping a hobby.

I don't think it's a race, and I don't think what you define as progression is necessarily so. For me it's about staying off cigarettes and enjoying vaping. I have so much to learn and I'm learning at my own pace but vaping isn't all about sub ohm. Some feel it's foolish to even go there. I think all that matters is if a person is happy comfortable and able to stay off cigarettes. It's not about "tooting your own horn" so to speak. Whatever some one likes is what they like. It does NOT mean a person knows more or is "better" because they sub ohm. Many people choose not to go there for safety reasons. As long as your happy safe and comfortable that's what matters. It's not about who does what faster or slower. As you get older you will come to realize these things.

More importantly why did you start vaping? I'm curious.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't want to knock someone too hard when I don't know all the details of their situation but still the mentioning of having just recently turned 18 raises some flags in my head. Also I get concerned when I hear of new vapers basically going straight into fairly advanced territory (specifically sub-ohming and DIY). There are a lot of things that can go horribly wrong if you don't take certain precautions and more importantly if you don't know the reasons WHY you need to take those precautions. This isn't a race to achieve a certain "level". Most of us essentially carried a death sentence in a cardboard box that we foolishly took on for whatever reason. The decision to switch to vaping is what freed us of that. Personally, I want to stay free of smoking and with everything going on with the FDA and the constant fear of some local ..... in a political office thinking they can score some publicity points by authoring a vaping ban for the sake of "public health" or "for the kids" or some other justification makes me a bit on edge whenever newbs get into stuff that has the potential to go horribly wrong. All it would take is for someone who doesn't really understand electrical theory (i.e. more than just punching numbers into this "ohms law calculator thingy") to think it would be really cool to wrap a .025 ohm coil (because lower ohms = i'm cooler) or someone to miscalculate their ratio of nic concentrate while DIYing and have a media outlet to catch wind of the inevitable consequences. Once that happens, all of us who got into this primarily to stop smoking and stop shaving years off our lives are going to have a much harder time doing what we love and is possibly one of the smartest things we've ever done. Like I said, I don't know this person's situation. Maybe they started on analogs when they were 15 and are an avid electronics hobbyist and now they are old enough to buy their own vape gear. I wouldn't be terribly critical if that were the case. I fear however that is probably an overly optimistic long shot on my part to think that.
