Hey all,
I'm very much a newbie to this forum although I have been lurking for a few months. Sorry this has to be the topic of my first post.

I finally broke down and purchased an M402 with 11mg VG juice a couple of months ago.

Looks great, feels great, but after only a few days of using it I get a really heavy feeling in my chest and it starts irritating my throat so much I have to stop using it.

Has this happened to anyone else ?
Am I doing something wrong ?

Any tips or tricks to get past this would be greatly appreciated as I love the idea of e-cigs, I'm just not having much luck with them.

Thanks.

I had that same feeling too......but it went away. I am not a doctor but I think the tight chest is because your breathing better and differently. A new work-out for your lungs. This lasted less than a week for me.

It was more an annoyance than pain for me.

:2c:

BTW....Can't comment on VG, but PG dries the throat.

Thanks for the response. :)

I'm not really getting an oily feeling, just a very dry and scratchy throat.
Any suggestions as to what I can try to get rid of that ?

I tried increasing my water intake but it didn't seem to help.
I'm just about ready to throw in the towel but would really like to give it another go if there is any way to get around these issues.

Thanks again.

Hi, welcome to ECF....as with any major change in our lives....get a check up from your doctor. Make sure "it's the normal stuff" and not something serious...

I hadn't even considered getting a check up, mainly because the chest and throat discomfort goes away within 24 hours of reverting back to normal cigs. (Go figure  ).

I'm not sure my doc would be the one to approach about this anyway,
he thinks inhaling anything other than fresh air is bad for you.
Can't imagine he'd be jumping for joy about e-cigs.

The dry scratchy sore throat is pretty normal with both PG and VG. Both of those dry your throat out and the only thing you can really do is drink a lot of water. I've found that really cold water is best for me. That feeling does go away after a couple of weeks, but will return once in a while if you're not drinking enough.

I order most of my juices from Tasty Vapor and they let you choose the PG/VG ratio. Lots of vendors sell a 50/50 mix and that is ok too, but it does make me have more phlegm.

Hi Blaze and welcome. I am no doctor, but I can share my own experience. I had a soreish throat for a couple of weeks after I started using my e-cig. I was ONLY using the PG juices. It went away and I have been fine ever since (7 months). I have also heard other people talk about a sore throat at first, so we're not alone. Good Luck

We really need a sticky about this on here.
These are common symptoms that happen when you quit cigs.
They happen even if you dont vape when you quit smoking.
Google for the symptoms of cig cessesion. You will find that just a few symptoms of detox from cigs are ,
acne, sore throat, mouth sores, short of breath, think you have a cold,
muscle aches, insomnia, headaches, etc etc. There are a lot of wierd things that happen when you quit cigs.
These things will happen even if you dont vape. It is not the pg or vg .
The good news is that they dont last all that long and will go away given a little time.

One of the challenges I encountered was that my body had adapted to the evils of smoking. When I started vaping it took awhile to adapt to not having it's defenses up for the irritations from all the chemicals in smokes.

As my body has healed, different maladies crop up but they eventually go away, including dry mouth, coughing, irritability, phlegm, etc.

Then, of course, there is that over whelming mental battle of just wanting a smoke, sitting in the belief that smoking relieves anxiety, it's simpler to grab a cig than adjusting e-juice and PV's, AND the whole habit thing of grabbing a smoke complete with the rituals (with other people or without) associated with the totally physically destructive act of smoking.

Keep vaping. You will be amazed at the changes for good that come from choosing to step away from analogs and still getting to enjoy the act of smoking thru vaping.

Alrighty then,
You've won me over. :)

I'm going to give it another whirl but I'll see if I can cut the VG juice down with something first, I think I read that distilled water helps a little.
Meanwhile I'll try and get my hands on a different mix.
Thanks to everyone for the great advice.

Now that I've actually taken the plunge and posted I'm sure I'll be spending a bit more time here.
LOL, DH will be happy. :)

mini_art: If you use the Search Function at the top of the forum, you can usually find info. on anything with a few good key words.

The Library on ECF has all the great Stickys... The ECF Library - E-Cigarette Forum

Here is one on common symptoms
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ing-your-symptoms-while-adjusting-vaping.html

Direct inhaling can also irritate the heck out of your throat (I can't do it). I hold the vapor in my mouth first and then bring it in my lungs. The first time my sister (who had quit smoking cold turkey a year ago) tried my e-cig she coughed and said it was harsh. I hit it just fine and dandy. All in using it for a while I think. VG in the liquid seems to help.
