Is it possible to use Ti coils with VW/VV mod?

Can't find info about that. Is it possible to vape Ti coil on VW/VV mode (without TC)?
I understand, that impossible for Ni200 because of very low resistance. Ti is pretty close to sub-ohms. But I don't know, how VW/VV mod works with TI, since it change resistance during heating.

As example: eGo One Mega + Ti coil + subox

Is there any problems with this set?

from what i understand, it is a bad idea... copied from another site...

Ni200 and Titanium are designed for temperature control so the coils do not get too hot. With Titanium, you need to be especially careful because the metal can ignite and burn like magnesium if it goes past it's flashpoint, which would really ruin your day, atomizer, and possibly the mod. To be safe, use the Ti and Ni200 in temp control mode only.

Hmm. Anybody tried that? :sneaky: What temp needed for ignition?

Don't get stupid...bad enough we have incidents on the news about improper battery usage, don't make another statistic. Use a particular material, device, battery for its intended specification, don't go out to intentionally start a fire and wind up on the evening news because of it...look back at news reports of the British warship set aflame and sunk by a missile in the Balkans from way back, there is what a Titanium fire can do in its worst extremes

Use Ti and Ni200 only on TC mods, wanting high wattage wire use Kanthal or Nichrome

All the so called "TC" wires can be used on VV/VW mods however how well (or not!) it works can be dependent on the base resistance of the coil and the mode of the mod used.

Keep in mind that as so called "TC wire" gets hotter, its resistance gets higher. How much higher is dependent on the TCR of the wire and the base or "cold" resistance of the coil.
    • In VW (or constant wattage) mode as the coil gets hotter, the resistance goes up and since higher resistance (at the same voltage setting) consumes less wattage the mod will increase the voltage to match the wattage set point. The problem here is that this can create a "feed back loop" that if left on its own (and depending on the limitations of the mod in use) can get very hot very fast. Not a good thing.
    • In VV mode (constant voltage) as the coil heats up the resistance will go up however since it is "constant voltage" the mod won't change or compensate the output because of the coils change in resistance, the coil will (over time) use less wattage as it heats up and heat up slower the longer power is applied. The problem here is that most modern TC/VW mods don't have an actual VV mode however while older VV/VW mods do have a VV mode many of them won't fire a coil <=1ohm and some require a coil >=1.5ohms to fire. Most "stock" Ni and Ti coils require a more modern (sub ohm) mod to fire them as they have way to little resistance to fire on older stuff.
So, it is possible but I would not recommend it to inexperienced users.

Ti and Ni coils are too low in resistance to be used properly in a non TC mod....
I use mine all the time in non TC, VW mod. 0.165ohm, 7 wraps, spaced, 26ga ti01, dual coils in a Billow RTA vapes great at 36w-40w. I usually vape in TC mod though, just safer! Why do you think Ti01 and Ni200 are too low in resistance? As long as you're mod can do 0.1 or higher then GTG, just don't mash the button down for several seconds on a dry wick and you won't catch fire...but don't try this at home, just use TC.

Sub-ohm refers to any coil that is below 1.0 Ω ... I would strongly suggest that you DO NOT do this in any mod that doesn't use Temperature Control.

    Here's a calculator for building coils: http://www.steam-engine.org/ohm.asp
