...

I truly believe that PG and VG are causing me to gain weight. I have completely ruled out everything else.

Are there ANY alternatives?

...

I can Only speak for Myself.

But for me, how much I weigh is Directly Proportional to How Much I put in my Mouth and How Much I Exercise.

I seem to be able to stay at the Same weight Eating anything I want. I just have to Ride the Bike more.

I'm so sorry your going through this. For me it seems vaping actually decreases my appetite. I use a 24MG nicotine and I'm guessing the decrease is due to the nicotine. In my personal experience I've found vaping to actually decrease my appetite to a point where I don't want to snack. If I'm feeling hungry then vape, I'm no longer hungry. I pretty much vape all day long and it really helps me cut back on the snacking.I'm so sorry it's having a opposite effect on you! I know it can be so difficult to loose weight after 40.have you tried going to the gym and working out? That might help? But you know your own body and if you feel vaping is causing the gain perhaps something in the vape is effecting you differently than it effects others.I wish you the best of luck on your journey and hope you get the problem figured out. Best wishes

Not a nutritionist, but I have seen an endocrinologist. I think I must be the world's only overweight celiac.

When thyroid meds made my thyroid go haywire about 13 years ago, my endo thought it must be a symptom of something else, and celiac was looked at closely (20 specialists never found a thing)...I've been so hyper thyroid my heart runs away and I end up in a hospital on an EKG, yet if I don't work out heavily in addition to my work as a machinist (and we eat ultra healthy) I gain weight...how many HYPER thyroid people can say that?? The body is a weird and complicated thing..

I just got home from the doctor's office, went between my posts here in fact, and my thyroids up again. Whee another ultrasound.

I'm going to say one more thing in here then I am done. If you wanna call it bullying, go ahead. I don't consider it bullying though, because I've been there. Last January I weighed 245 Lbs at 5'9" tall and wore size 40 jeans. I was 35% body fat. I had been over weight since my senior year in high school and have battled with it my entire life. I am now 40 years old and weigh 187 Lbs and wear size 32 jeans and I'm around 15% body fat. I'm still working toward my goal of 10-12% body fat.

People who are over weight (me included, formerly) always want to find SOMETHING to blame it on besides what we put in our mouths. I blamed wheat, glutton, slow metabolism...you name it, I blamed it. It doesn't help that the internet has so much BS information about these kinds of things because most of it is big weight loss corporations out there trying to get you to buy their products to lose weight. I tried all that too. I tried pills, meal replacement shakes, stupid diets...you name it, I tried it. It all lead me right back to where I started. It really is "calories in vs. calories out", "eat less/move more" and "portion control". I know there are medical conditions out there that change those key concepts, but most who THINK they have them, DON'T. Me being one of those people.

Now, to the OP. Maybe you do have a medical condition that prevents you from losing weight. I don't know. All I was trying to do in the beginning was get some info to help you out from my experiences in something I am very experience in. Am I a doctor? No. Am I a dietitian (you have to watch them as well, for they are a lot of times trying to sell their BS)? No. Do I have life experience with this? Yes, lots.

As I said before, good luck. I hope you discover the issues causing your weight problem and conquer them. No one should have to be unhappy with the way they look.

May I ask where you source the Imported Swedish Snus from? I too felt "off" as well as experienced stomach issues from the WTA I purchased and used from Aroma, and even started a thread about it somewhere on here a few days ago! I've tried U.S snus, but from my understanding it doesn't work quite as well as the Swedish variety, and NO, not weird at all! :)
-Feignix

I use the imported snus because I don't wish to purchase from US tobacco companies with their history of additives..2 stores in my area carry the General brand snus, and there is a store finder option on their web site. There is a snus section on the forum here as well in the 'tobacco harm reduction' area... maybe chat with those folks.

I haven't been vaping long but I have yet to gain weight...the only weight I have gained is from my antidepressants that I just got put on side effect weight gain![/B] So I really don't think that it's the vaping, it could be other factors in your life like stress, and stuff like that... but I am not a medical doctor so I can't tell you for sure but I really doubt it's the vaping doing it.

I'll tell you exactly what I take issue with regarding SOME of the replies...I made every disclaimer in my OP regarding ruling out other causes, I noted that I am NOT a scientist ( though some must be, that they can say with absolute certainty that vaping in no way can cause weight gain in anyone). I am not saying this weight gain happened overnight...been heavily vaping for 5 years. Extrapolate that to the 5 lbs or whatever some say they've gained in just a couple of months. Not sure how this can be more clear. In good faith, I asked if there is any news I am unaware of...AFTER performing the search. Thank you to everyone who has attempted to give a legitimate suggestion.

Geeker, if I were in your position I would try to get some Swedish snus and use that to help me cut back on vaping. I think the only way you'll ever find out if it's vaping VG or PG is if you cut back on them and see what happens.

An aternative is to up your nic level and vape less. I don't vape for nicotine so this wouldn't work for me but your situation is different. We tend to vape a lot more than we smoked, but it doesn't have to be this way. You can take your juice nic level quite high, vape like you used to smoke (for me that was a cigarette about every 45 minutes with about 8 puffs per), get your nic level up and then stop vaping for a while. I would think you could reduce juice use by 50% easily. Maybe even 80%. Do that for 2 months and you'll know if it works for you.

Good luck with it :thumb:

Counting calories works. If you do it right, you can lose or gain weight at will. Lifting weights is the best form of exercise to reduce your risk of diabeties as well as cancer and osteoperosis. Use a food scale, be honest about what you are eating when you log it, and you will lose weight. If you don't then you have a medical condition and need to seek professional medical help.

I think that when you quit smoking your body goes a little nuts no matter what you do or how you quit. It may be the vaping or it may just be the way your particular body/metabolism is dealing with the lack of all that other crap that goes into cigs. I was always told that it was giving up nicotine that ended up in putting pounds on your body, but I quit smoking using nicotine gum when I was in my late 40s and gained 20 lb. Lost those pounds in about 3 mo by living on protein and veggies.

I know I have gained weight since I started vaping also. Doctor's appt tomorrow so I will either have to cover my ears or find out the truth about how much. I am glad summer is coming because there are going to be a lot of salads in my future, I'm sure, but no way I am going to stop vaping.

The age thing counts a lot. After 40 it is much harder to keep weight off imo.

Hell after 25 it's hard to keep it off lol.. nearing 30 now and my gut is out of control.. But I also have been slacking in the work out/diet dept.

Being a skinny kid all my life I was so happy to get any weight back after I quit smoking, no matter what type of weight it was..

All I know is if 100 people can go on a diet and vape
99 lose weight and 1 does not
there has to be another explanation other then vaping

If you are not miscalculating cals
then there must be a biological explanation
but there is no way it can be vaping

If it were I would not be losing weight
and I vape 2x as much as you

and I don't nearly get the exercise I should

Somewhere out there
You say you've ruled out everything else. I'm curious if that includes the flavorings in eliquid and PG or VG individually?

I have wondered why some vapers report weight loss, some report weight gain, some report no change? I've gained maybe 10 pounds in a year. I was really hoping that vaping as a substitute for snacking would help me loose, but it hasn't. Calorie counting never worked for me, the only thing that worked was to go high protein, low carb. I really need to go back to that regimin. When I was younger I was active enough that I could pretty much eat anything I wanted and maintain a steady weight, but I've got issues now that prevent be from being as active as I'd like.

I sometimes wonder if the flavorings we choose the vape make a difference. I favor light fruity vapes and menthol. would bakery and candy flavors be different?

I have seen one big factor in weight gain. Heavy people often have problems with their knees and hips, as a result of carrying the extra weight. Exercise is a very large factor, but many forms of exercise then add more stress to those vulnerable joints. Going to a good gym, that does not cater to the already fit population can be very important. I am using this NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainers | NuStep which is much better for my needs (not terribly overweight, but mild scoliosis in my lower spine makes it important), along with weights. Dieting without exercise just does not work. And the whole body needs that exercise.

As for vaping-- I often vape when I would rather eat. Good for LOSING weight. I also find that my anxiety levels go down with exercise, which was one of my excuses for smoking.

If you've gained 10 lbs in a year, what's to say you won't continue that trend and gain 50 in 5, like me? There is something going on with vaping and weight gain, for some of us anyway.

Ingredients in various stuff effects everyone's body differently... I for one have gained some weight, but not enough to be concerned about. I would also say try some swedish snus and try to cut down on vaping and see if that helps any.

If it does, then you have your answer. Just do not go back to smoking!

I wish you the best of luck!
