Is my Ego Spinner going to blow up?
[/h]
I need some help from the ECF experts. My Ego Spinner ("technically" not a Vision Spinner) is scaring me! It keeps flashing and if a clearo is on it, fires intermittently. (so I removed the clearo).
i cannot "5 click" it off, is it going to catch fire or anything? It's currently residing In a coffee container on my front walk, away from my house...just in case. This is how it started:

two nights ago, the button flashed, as if it needed to be charged. I guess it was relatively appropriate time wise, so I put it on the charger. After about an hour, the charger read green...it usually takes a bit longer than that. Now here's the problem: THE LIGHT KEEPS BLINKING! I can not "5 click" it off. I put a clearo on it and it wouldn't fire...then it did WITHOUT pressing the button. After a little while, the light stopped flashing, so I used a multimeter, and it showed "0 volts". Bummer, it's dead!
Then, like something out of a Stephen King novel, the darn thing rises from the dead, and starts to spontaneously blink at me! I check it with a multimeter, and it's reading anywhere from 1.99 to 3.4 volts!
Then, it's dead again.

How long will it take to drain? Is it dangerous?
i've read that sometimes the MOSFET switch can be reset by putting it on the charger again?

Can I salvage this bAttery? Or should I dunk it in salt water to deactivate (neutralize) the charge?
could it be a short that can be fixed? How?

thanks in advance for your help!

P.S. my vendor has already generously sent out a replacement, as it should not have failed in such a short time. These guys are great!

I doubt it will bow up but, still be safe, while rare, it can happen. I'd let it go dead - 4-5 days to a week, somplace safe but protected form the weather too, then put it on a charger and see how it acts.

If it still acts up, it's best disposed of properly. Take it to a retailer that will have it recycled - 1-877-2-RECYCLE to find one. And, here's some more tips to get it disposed of properly.

***RECALL*** There has been a recall issued for all EVOD BATTERIES manufactured before June 24th 2013!!! These batteries could possibly EXPLODE during charge. If you've purchased Evod batteries, contact the vendor for directions on return/replacement. PLEASE stop using these batteries, this is a VERY serious health hazard!!

Email to vendors who purchased from Heaven Gifts:
Dear friend,

... This is a group email from Heaven Gifts.

According to our customers' feedbacks and factory's information, some EVOD batteries died after charge in a short time.
KangerTech figured out that there might be problem with 2 or 3 batches of battery cells they got from a battery factory. These
batteries are possible to EXPLODE during charge, although the possibility is very very small.

KangerTech attached great importance to the problem and upgraded the protection of EVOD battery and have more strict quality
control on the battery cells. The EVOD batteries we are supplying now are all improved ones, there is no such problem.

In order to avoid any serious accident, we and KangerTech decided to make the recall on old version of EVOD batteries,
regardless of the high cost.

The potential faulty EVOD batteries are as below:
All EVOD 650mAh batteries in matte black, yellow, blue. Rest colors we sent before June 24.
ALL EVOD 1000mAh batteries in yellow, green. Rest colors we sent before June 24.
All EVOD starter kits in yellow. Rest colors we sent before June 24.

Here is our recall procedure:

1. Please stop selling all old version EVOD batteries, including those in the starter kits immediately.
2. Please inform all your end users to stop using old version EVOD batteries immediately.
3. We will replace all your old version EVOD batteries and send with your future order. Please email us the quantity and color
like below:

Replacement:
KangerTech EVOD 650mAh manual battery, color *quantity
KangerTech EVOD 1000mAh manual battery, color *quantity

Also, you must leave an order message about it when you place your new order.

ship out replacement asap.

5. No need to send back the old version EVOD battery to us.

If you once purchased EVOD batteries or EVOD starter kits, please do reply this email to confirm that you already knew this

I wouldn't screw around with it much... depending on the charge in that thing, it could still pack quite a punch if it let go. Sounds like some of the inards got all wonky. Even if you did somehow get whatever fault it is having cleared, I'll find a safe way to dispose of it properly and wait for the replacement.

Like any other product like this, you can get a defective unit. Even a small ego can cause serious injury if it suffers a catastrophic failure. A lot of times, these failures come with warning signs beforehand.

As for how to get rid of the thing... more experienced users here would know better. But I would keep in in a safe place for the time being... you might want to take it off the walk though. :)
