currently I am vaping using an ego 650mAh battery along with a T2 atomizer. Theses two are the only atomzier and battery I have and I want to order another battery and atomizer for backup. I've heard a lot about the protank but I hear they can be a hassel, one of my friends bough the protank and he said when he tryed it the tank became so hot that it shorted out his battery. I'm just looking for a reliable tank that produces superior vapor.

I have used my pro tanks on 1100 MaH ego twist with no issue. Your T2 will become backup after you buy a PT. I know mine would. If you use them correctly they shouldn't leak either. I would suggest the newer version though the PT2. It is really nice.
I love the ProTank and have yet to have any problems with it. Just got my ProTank 2s on monday and so far I am loving them too.
I don't know what really happened with your friend's setup. The lowest resistance pre-made coils for these things is 1.8 ohms. I've put a PT with a 1.8 ohm coil on my really ancient (pre 5 click) eGo batteries and it works fine. Something was seriously wrong with your friend's setup.
If you are still on the fence and want to try something less expensive first, try the Kanger T3 clearo (new model is T3s) first. Same idea, but the T3 is plastic so it's less expensive.

I have 2 Protanks and 2 Protank II's. Works great on wife Inferno batteries both 600 and 1000 batteries. Can be quirky with 100% VG juices. Remove wicks if necessary. The only "issue" you might have is with the airy draw of the original PT. The PTII is not as airy.
I'm using a protank on a ego mega vv2 with no problems at all. So far it's been much less of a hassle than my evods, it doesn't leak like they do but then I've gotten coils with missing wicks for the evods, I would definitely recommend the protank over the evods.
I've been using a Protank on my 1300mah Spinner daily for about a week. No leaking or other issues so far and the flavor and vapor production are very good. Mine came with a 1.8ohm head and a 2.5ohm head and I've used them both. I haven't had the need to vape above 3.8 volts yet other than to try it out. All of my juices so far taste better at 3.8v or lower with the Protank.
I paid $19.00 plus tax at my local vape shop. A little on the high side but I haven't regretted it for a second.

I have had good experiences with the ProTank 2. As with anything, though, YMMV.

i have both the Pro tank and the mini Pro tank. I like them both. I use the mini most of the time because it is new and i like the new toys. Does not hold as much juice, so i will eventully go back to the pro tank. I have not used any of the evods or others in a long time...
Protank is awesome, that is about all I use now because they're hassle free. I still have some juices that demand a carto tank, but most are A-OK.
I prefer the regular evod to a protank personally. Protank has a very cool vape and muted flavor fme
Protank is worth it. Dont evem know why I wasted so much time and money vaping with a tank and carto. Like the other guys said....get the protank 2...if you decide to get one
if you are just using a 650mah non VV ego then no, im sure you will hate it. Thing has no balls until you get up to around 4.2v even with the 1.8ohm coils it seems weak on 650 mah 3.7v egos. evod on the other hand seem to pair up great with the 650 egos.
now ego twiste, worth every penny, I am running 3 protanks right now and a evod. Very happy with them and love how easy it is to rebuild the heads

both protanks are nice(1 & 2), but the dbox puritank has a better draw and is better.
