Hey all!

Just wondering if there is any substantial medical risks to using an e-cig? What exactly is in these juices besides flavor, and nicotine? I, without a doubt, would imagine they are way better for you than your traditional cigarette.

Side effects. Anything like that?

Know this wont hinder my choice in anyway to use my recently purchased Kgo, but I was just wondering what exactly am I inhaling, and the risks(if any).

Any info would be great! I figured I'd ask the pros here rather than scouring around online.

Thanks again!

I'm a complete noob, and I have the impression that there's not yet enough good scientific analysis for doctors to reach a consensus, but my intuition tells me that whatever risks might be associated with vaping, it can't possibly be as harmful as lighting real tobacco on fire and inhaling the smoke. But I don't know anything, so I'm sorry if you feel like I've wasted your time with this reply.

Most juices are comprised of Nicotine, non-toxic vegetable glycerin, non-toxic propylene glycol, flavor extracts, and water.

As far as medical risks, the sample size of time is really not large enough to determine long-term risks. However, my short-term affects tell me that it's still better than smoking analogs with thousands of chemicals, CO, CO2, etc.

There have been very few studies, no large long term studies, vaping is still too new to conclusively say it is safe, my un educated guess is that we will find that something in vaping will cause problems in some people, hell peanutbutter is deadly to some people. our bodies are constantly exposed to hazards vaping is another variable added to it.

But I do know one thing for certain: I started smoking at age 14 and smoking was already giving me health symptoms at the relatively young age of 35. I was at the edge of a down hill spiral, my quality of life was already tapering off because of smoking, and smoking had a very high probability of giving me a long drawn out painful death in the not too distant future. I have watched too many of my ancestors die of cancer to want to live through that.

The safest thing would be to not smoke nor vape, that is the best answer if you can do it, but I am an addict, and despite trying for 15 years I could not quit smoking for more than a few months and I would start up again, Vaping is my next best alternative and the results so far have been very good.

while the long term may be a question mark give this thread a read about the very real short term health improvements of vaping,

All I can tell you is my experience.

I've been analog free for just over one month, and I vape like crazy every day. My lungs no longer have that wheezing sound, my heart no longer pounds, and I have twice the energy I had before I switched from smoking to vaping. Long term? Who knows, but it's certainly improved my health short term!!!

I have smoked over 35 years and the last 4 years I have had chronic sinus infection and I was on 3 different inhalers. I quite smoking regular cigs Feb. 14, 2012 of this year. Its now June 1st and I no long have any sinus infection, they quit about 1 week after my last cigarette and I am totally off all the inhalers. I am no longer short of breath and I feel great!

YMMV, but i was diagnosed with onset COPD a couple years ago and was using an asthma inhaler (sometimes 2-3 times/day) and Advair everyday. No lectures on the stupidity of smoking through that please... Anyway, since switching to vaping no more Advair and haven't used an asthma inhaler even once.

My respiratory therapist flat out told me that there are most certainly some unknown risks with any inhalant, but compared to the other prognosis was not even a question for me (she got her Dad vaping too).

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, just sharing my experiences...

I've been vaping for almost 2 years and have more energy than when I was in my 20's. That's all the health information I need but like you, long term still concerns me, but not like ciggies did. Unfortunately, we haven't been at it long enough to know the outcome. Some great studies going on so keep your eyes peeled in the health section for updates.

I'd like to know this as well. I have done a lot of research as well but nothing long term (technology hasn't been around long enough). We'll get some solid answers in a few years though.

If comparing to a vaper to someone who doesn't vape and doesn't smoke at all, of course we may not be as healthy.
But compared to a cigarette smoker and someone who vapes, I don't think there's a question that our medical risks are greatly reduced. The immediate effects you feel when you stop cigarettes are great. All the pains & breathing problems you may have had should go away after a few weeks of vaping.

still, I'm always continuing to research any other advancements as they come

There's loads of anecdotal evidence that vaping is way healthier than smoking - just ask anyone here how they feel!

But the effects of vaping are unknown since it hasn't been studied extensively. Work on getting yourself off of the cigarettes with all those chemicals and tar. Vaping will surely help you with that. Once you realize that you'll never go back to analogs, then you can concern yourself with cutting down on the vaping if that's what you want. No one can really say if there's reason to be worried about the health effects at this point.

Since I stopped smoking and started vaping, my resting heart rate has dropped 10 beats per minute. I feel SO MUCH BETTER in the morning. More awake and alert and no more coughing up gunk. I think all the tar in my lungs was affecting my breathing in my sleep, so now I get more oxygen while I'm sleeping and wake up feeling refreshed and not sluggish. The most amazing thing to me is that switching from smoking to vaping has been absolutely painless; I don't even have urges to smoke cigarettes.

I'm not a doctor either, far from it, and it's true that long term research hasn't been done on "vaping" I have not looked up vegetable glisterine, but MDI's (inhalers given to asthma, copd etc patients) and nebulizers which are used to give breathing treatments have used propylene glycol as a solvent to make certain drugs mix better with water so that it can be delivered to the lungs in the mist. Some folks do have issues with PG, but it's been used as something that is inhaled for a long time. What doses, I can't tell you....and that could in and of itself be a whole new ball game......but given that it is used medically as an inhaled substance, and that every vaper I've heard says they feel better, more energy, more lung power etc, it's enough for me to absorb whatever risk there might be if I can get off cigs with it.
