im looking at a passthrew for my kr808d-1 and i have a car usb adapter my girl gave me just a cheapy from walmart but wondering if its powerful enough to use with the passthrew and not just for charging. its 5v 400mah

Not really. Even if it worked a bit, you wouldn't be getting true 5 volt vaping. 1000mAh or 1 amp minimum but 2000mah, 2 amps would be the best option.

A passthrough generally has no Battery. However I did just purchase an Ego Usb. It does have a battery and you can use while charging.

The passthroughs are specificity designed to be used on a computer USB port.

(edit) Most well made motherboards or USB controllers will have no issues with a PassThrough. I will not guarantee that it can't damage the computer but I have had no issues with 5 different computers with a KR808D-1 passthrough and the way it vapes I do believe I am getting the full current draw from it. Also we should probably be using mA not mAh. :)

Does your PT have a battery? If so, that 400 mah just might work, although a 1000 would be better. If you don't have a battery, then a two amp model is your best bet. I use this one from Mad Vapes. You can find them other places but I can verify this one works with a no battery PT and the price isn't bad.
2 amp Car to USB Adapter

KR808D-1 passtrough doesn't has battery and delivering an astonishing 5.4-5.7V from USB port on my desktop PC.
I'm using a standard 808 cartomizer (came with kit). VG juice is too thick to use with this kind of voltage.

There were several reports last year from members who killed their PC's by plugging into it with a pass through. Plus I read several posts by computer tech's who advised against it. It makes no sense to do this for the want of a USB to AC adapter.

I do agree that you can cause damage to your computer. That is why I put the no guarantee caveat in. However having said that, I have been building computers for a long time and while I can not recommend using them in good faith, well designed equipment will not have an issue with a passthrough. I guess it becomes one of those "at your own risk" deals.

The voltage reading you are getting Is not your true Vapping voltage. You wold have to have your carto or atomizer attached to see what voltage you are getting with a load. You could use a high wattage (10 Watt 2.8 ohm should work) resistor that matches your carto's Ohms ratting to test the voltage however. Also with a little bit of math you can figure out how many watts and amps you are pulling through your Motherboard. I plan on making a stop at Rabbid Snatch (a.k.a Radio Shack) to pick one up to test some of my batteries.

I have to give credit to another thread for reminding me of this even though I should have remembered my self. It's just been a lot of years since I have done any component level work.

(Edit) Gotta love Pluck and Chuck trouble shooting these days.
(Edit II) Please be very careful not to short your leads when testing!
