I'm not sure which explanation is correct, but I tend to favor the one claiming that most juices have components of different densities and/or particulate contents; in top coil designs, the "lighter fractions" of the juice have an easier time wicking up, whereas the denser, darker stuff remains at the bottom.

Theoretically, there should be a difference in the flavor, then, but there shouldn't be anything wrong with the darker juice. Also, apparently, using a bottom coil clearomizer would prevent this from happening....

Could it be that exposure to light makes it darker? I don't know if that's right though. I notice that even some of the juices I keep in a drawer get darker with time; it's really noticeable when I get a new bottle and compare it to the one I've been using. No appreciable difference in taste so I am cool with it.

I was told by the owner of one of the oldest companies in the business (2007) that as the heating coil heats over time, it gets darker and that when it comes in contact with the eliquid, it changes the color of the eliquid in patches.

Exactly.

The juice in the wicking material gets caramelized, and goes down the wicks into the tank.

I'm still not clear if this makes a difference in the vaping experience. I use mostly clear cartos and only light colored eliquid. Fairly soon after I see this happening, I usual start fresh, again. My cartos last me about 5 - 6 days, then I start a fresh one.
