So my zmax was using a series 18350 stack of batteries. One of them was a cheap knockoff and probably died.

I ONLY have the extender cap yet I have multiple 18490 batteries. I stuffed a huge wad of clay in the extender cap to fill it up completely. I then took the spring and turned it on its side and stuck it on the clay and screwed it in so that it made a full connection. The battery works now but I really need to know if that is safe.?

Well you get an A for effort. Clay is not a conductor of electricity so I would say it would be ok. The only thing that worries me is turning the spring side ways. Some springs are actually thermal breakers. Meaning if the battery overheats it (the spring) would actually pop. I'm not sure if the orientation of the spring would inhibit that function.
