Hi,

I'm new to vaping and so, when it comes to this subject, please bear in mind that I have no idea what I'm talking about most of the time.

I have a Smok R80 with a TFV4. I typically run it quite low (~30W approx) - I assume this is quite low as it goes to 80. However, recently when I vape it appears to "spit" little particles that I can feel on my tongue. I wonder if this is e-juice or some such? The mouthpiece seems clean and doesn't appear to have any e-juice within. It is difficult to describe but feels like minute little hot coals come in with the vapour.

Separately (or very possibly interrelated, I have no idea) I don't know whether or not I need to change my coil. I've done some googling and the message seems to be "you'll know". Well, I don't know. I can't detect a significant difference in quality on the vape, and as I'm a relatively light user (I think), it's difficult to put a time-frame on the coils (assuming they don't just expire after 2 weeks with zero use).

Any advice on either or both points would be most welcome.

Also...um...how do you change the coil? I read the instruction manual and from what little I can make out it appeared to have been translated from the original chinese by someone who speaks only french. This may be more me than the manual.

Thanks,
A

Welcome and enjoy your stay!

As I am not familiar with your equipment I can't offer suggestions or help you but just be patient as many of the more experienced users will definitely post some comments. I am sure they will ask for as much information you can provide like e-Liquid strength and VG/PG proportions or type of coils you are using. Good Luck and Happy Vaping. :vapor:

With the TFV4 coils you can tell if they need to be replaced by looking at the cotton and seeing the color. If it's brown or dark black you'll likely need a replacement. Also depends on what color juice you're using. The TFV4 goes through coils a bit more quickly than the other tanks I own. Plus, depending on which coil type you have for the TFV4 there might be some issues with spitting as there are many different coil designs SMOK makes for the tank. I find my TFV4 does not spit and has medium to low coil life.

I've found spitback in my TFV4 triple coil was caused by not enough power..low watts wasn't enough to vaporize all the juice in the coil (wick) completely.. Solution was to bump up the watts until it quit spitting..about 70-75w in my case..

+1^ ON WHAT HE SAID! I'm really suprised you got a TFV4 coil to fire at less than 50w! This tank is a beast in many ways! If you're not a cloud chuckin', flavor chasin' person this tank might be too much for you! Try maybe a SubTank Mini or some such tank with smaller coils that other people here could recommend!

It could be that there is not enough power/wattage to the coil....depending on the coil make sure on a regulated mod that the volts are at least 3.7 to 4.2...that seems to help me with spitting.
Which is about 68-88w! LOL! I've found shooting for that voltage range no matter what the build is usually pretty close to my "Sweet Spot"!:thumbs:

Lol..that's good...that voltage range works for me.
As a matter of fact I've got a dual 316SS Fused Clapton reading .13OHMS in my Griffin on my RX200 running at 100w & 3.61 volts mostly cuz I've got my stubby drip tip in & it's too effin hot when I go up to 125w at 4.03v! LOL! Really for me the only right & wrong in vaping is the do's & don'ts of battery safety! As long as you follow those rules vape the way that satisfies YOU!:headbang:

Without knowing which coil you are running, 30w could be REALLY low, or it could be a decent area for some of the coils. The triple, quad, hex, octuple, and claptons all require significantly more than 30w to power. The TF-T2 coils are good around the 30w range.

As for the coil wearing out, you will typically notice a sharp decline in flavor or burnt taste. However, if you are running the higher power coils at very low power, I can't see you really getting enough vapor to be able to notice a difference. In that case, your best bet would be to just disassemble the tank and look at the cotton. If it is all gunked up, it is probably time to change.

Also, head over to youtube and watch some videos related to the TFV4. Youtube is a wealth of information.
