Hello vaping People!

I bought a Riva 510 like a month ago and I started to have issues with it as soon as the 2 atomizers that came with the pack died.
I tried to get a LR Atomizer after that (which I did not like), but it looks like since I ever used it, my batteries last wayy less!

After I have noticed that the LR was killing my battery (fat), I decided to give cartomizers a try.
They did work for a few days but now EVERY single time I try to use a Cartomizer, I end up putting everything back in the box and going back to analogs.

This is really frustrating.
Cartomizers seem to have a really nasty taste (burning bleech taste), no matter if they have 2 drops or 10 of e-liquid.
I tested a lot of times with new cartos (I have a bunch of them unused) and the result is always the same, no matter what I do or how I refill.

I also noticed that the Cartomizers are not long enough to fit the RIVA properly (it makes the RIVA look bad, and since the mouthpiece ends up really near the cone, it gets to a point that I am not allowed to vape, or I will burn my lips).

I used to be a big defender of the RIVA 510, but I think the joy is gone and I will need a new one, or just give away the idea of having a replacement for analogs, as in reality nothing really worked for me so far (results are not stable.. I cannot confidently take this to my workplace; I know I end up getting a pack of analogs and that's it).

It ended up as a big waste of money, and as of now I can honestly tell you that I have spent way more on eCigs than on cigarettes (considering what I end up trashing/not consuming - it has been over $150).

Did this RIVA behavior occur to some of you?
I know it is NOT the Ecigarette itself as it was just fine when I bought it. Or does it die over time? I am a biggggg smoker so I imagine I gavce it more use than most people out there.

Might sound stupid, but my mind keeps telling me it was the LR experiment that killed it!
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide :)

Most cartomizers take 20 or more drops. If you don't fill them up all the way, you will get a burning taste that will never come out. Once they burn, they are trash.

You might try one more time, but fill it up until it drips out the thread side. Then a quick blow into the mouth side to clear out the middle. You should be able to see light through. They will last a couple days if you keep them filled (every few hours, refill).

Also a drip tip for a 501 will fit in the mouth end. It will give you cooler lips.

LR Attys and cartos drain batteries faster than standard batteries, because of the lower resistance.

You are under filling the cartos and burning the filler. Most cartos take 20+ drops for the initial fill.

Yes standard cartos are short. Get a drip tip or remove the cone. I don't use the cone when i use a riva or ego battery.

All batteries die over time and use of LR attys /cartos will speed the process.

Hi. Using LR atty's will shorten batt life but usually not that quickly. Try using a drip tip on the carto to give you some distance.

When you fill one for the first time do you fully saturate the carto? You should slowly fill it until it won't soak up any more juice. I like to let them sit for a few hours afterwords.

Battery's will wear out eventually yes. Now it is possible you have a bad one? It happens. Mark them A & B and see how they compare in performance.

Hang in there. There is a learning curve but it's not to bad. I know I've spent as much learning to vape as I did on cigs, but, I'm healthier and happier. And I know now that I have it mostly figured out the cost will go down.

Good Luck!

Neither 2 drops not 10 drops is enough liquid for a cartomizer. So you are singeing the stuffing and ruining the taste of the carto.

You need to fill the carto totally and that means at least 18 drops per ml of capacity. A Boge carto is about 1ml so you need to get 18+ drops in there. I hold a bit of tissue pressed against the threaded end hole. After I drip thew juice in, I clean the threaded end, then blow into the threaded end with the open end down into a tissue to clear the air channel. Then I sop up any loose juice baout the stuffing and cap the cart. Now since it was a fresh fill of a blank, I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing has absorbed some liquid (I use 70pg/30vg juice so if your juice is thicker or has more VG you mayu need to wait much longer). Then it should be vapable. After that, whenever the vapor seems light or a bit dry or the carto seems to be getting hot, I add juice because I do not want to singe the carto.

You need to get a Go-Go , iGo or Echo they all have bottom horiz 3 ml cartos that you can put 100 drops on a new carto and 80 drops on refills with no burning problems.

it doesnt matter what the capacity is, the OP was burning the carto on the initial fill...

Thank you for all the replies! Pretty quick response from the community here.

This is correct, it was always on the initial fill.
I followed Nic_Fan's advice and gave it another try on a blank carto and this method worked on one of them:
YouTube - Filling 510 Cartomizers

I have filled a couple and let them rest while changing its position every once in a while (following dormouse's advice on this one).

I will give it a try in a few hours (fingers crossed).

That Go-Go seems to be attractive! Pricey too though.
Are any of you using those?

The go-go is probably good but it doesn't have 510 threading standard. I would recommend looking at some of the 510 mods first.

I just received an e-power and some of the new duel coil cartos from hoosier and I'm really liking both. The only thing that might be a con for some is size. It isn't too big to suit me but it is big.

A smaller mod that consistently gets good reviews is the rough stack from mad vapes.

I do recommend trying the new duel coils. I normally cannot use cartos because I singe them too fast and I have to toss them before I can get enough use from them. I vaped several hours on a duel coil yesterday and I only heard it pop three times and absolutely no charcoal taste yet. I have hopes this will be my carto for out and about.

I put 22 drops in mine to initial fill. Hold my fingers over the holes and shake like a thermometer, roll between my palms then let sit about 5 minutes. Then perhaps every few hours I will add some drops till it starts pooling and won't absorb any more. (around 5-10 drops) Been using same cartomizer for a week without issue. I am using a drip tip with an ego-t battery. I have ordered some cones to restore the ego look.

Sorry to hear about your Riva. I've had mine for a few months now, and have been using LR(Boge) cartomizers with it, no problems at all. I strongly prefer cartos over dripping or atomizers. I do tend to take extra time to fill the cartos and make sure that the center hole is cleaned of liquid before use. Although it's a manual battery, there's a chance some ejuice could get into the battery if not properly set up.
