Tootle puffin' Airhead here.

My iS 30 is 6 months old now and was PIF'd to Me. I should probably start thinking about a replacement/back up. (Move the 30 to emergency B/U mode.)

I rebuild my GS coils at 1.5 ohm and am perfectly happy with them at 11-13 watts.

The added complication of TC really just doesn't interest me. I'd use the 40 in tootle puffer mode just as I do now.

Reliability and everything else into account, which should I consider first?

I think I saw a deal recently where a 40 was cheaper than a 30.

DAMN. I wish the iS charging port was on the side.

I have a 30w istick which is starting to play up and was thinking exactly the same as you about the 40w to use in wattage mode only. Not interested in temp control either. Only thing that is putting me off is the battery is fixed like the 30watt. So I have been looking at the evic vtc mini same size or near as damm it but replaceable battery, better screen and front USB port.

You can get 2 new iS 30's for what one Evic costs.

I don't have a problem replacing an iS 30 a year for $30.

The thing is though if you get an eVic VTC all you have to worry about is replacing the battery. Your typical battery only runs from $10-$15. You would be getting a much better mod in my opinion.

If you can wait for the Evic Mini to come from China, efun.top has it for about $34 shipped. Sure, you'll have to buy a battery if you don't have one, but I have been charging mine with the front port since I got it, so no separate charger needed.

Replaceable battery and firmware updates make it worthwhile now at lower power, and room to grow with 75 watts and TC if you want to try it. I have both the Evic Mini and the iStick 40w, and I prefer the Evic, even in power mode @ 25 watts.

That is what I have done, I'm in the UK ordered from efun.top on wednesday 14th October, received tracing information on Friday 16th October and according to tracking it has landed in the UK early hours today 23rd Octover, not bad just over a week. With delivery$35.55 which is just over £23.

Great deal in my opinion for a great mod with upgradeable firmware, some have had issues using the Temp Control according to the threads in here but I'm not interested in temp control, it will be for my GS Air-M with my re-built coils. I have two LG HG2 3000mah 20A batteries fully charged and ready to go when it arrives in my hand, hopefully later today or Monday.

I'm perfectly happy with my Subox Nano, since it has removable batteries and it's much smaller than my 30. And the kit is very cheap to start with, the tank very nice to tootle puffers and it'll run you about 50 bucks. The heads are somewhat easy to rebuild, but, as everything, it's up to you.
I'd run to get the istick 60w TC instead, having removable batteries. But if you never use any other coil but Kanthal, I'd stick to the 30.
