Istick tc40w

I just got this yesterday. Using with a subtank mini. Works fine with .5 ohm coils in vw mode. Now I have ni200 .15 ohm coils. The problem is, no matter what temp setting the vapor is cold or it won't fire at all. Says temp protection and won't do anything. It worked dune for about 2 hours at 420*.
I also noticed it reads .12 or .11 sometimes. It will fire at about 30w sometimes. Sometimes it just says atomizer low.

2 questions
1 can I use the ni coils in vw mode without temp control, or is this dangerous?
2 why does it say temp protect and not fire all the sudden?

Using Nickel in power mode is dangerous. Google Nickel oxide in the lungs.

The istick40tc was Eleaf's first attempt at TC.

THE 60TC IS A BETTER ATTEMPT AT TC.

In TC, should be 40 watts fixed. Temp protected means it hit the dialed in temp & your toot is over. More vapor, raise the temp..

To be honest that has happened to me also.
Usually as it gets warmer. On my yihi TC devices i lock the resistance in at room temperature.
Can't find a lock on the ileaf. I no longer try.
What is interesting are kanthal builds in temp mode. Start low & adjust to taste.
I have a lot of devices to fall back on yet you shouldn't have struggle with a poorly designed mod. Best regards..

Have you properly charged the mod? Some iSticks arrive with almost dead batteries.

I'm not saying this is relevant, but maybe if you need to ramp it up to get it vaping, then it doesn't like what's going on at too high a temp setting. (If that makes sense..)

I have one arriving (tomorrow?) and if I get these troubles, I shall just use it in normal (non TC) mode.

Sounds worrying, I hope you work something out.

I think the tank was more of the issue. Had to keep unscrewing and tightening until the atomizer low or short error went away.
Make sure you don't have a .2 or .15 coil in vw mode. Too low. But .5 works really well in vw mode.

Oh dear. I haven't even got mine yet and it sounds as if the 0.15 is a disaster.
Anyway, the back-up plan was always to go back to VW.

Weird thing with Ni coils I've found. Some of them will stay at 0.15 forever and they're good to fire at 450F, and some will drop to 0.12-0.13 and need turning up to 540F to get the same performance. The temp protection thing is normal - the coil gets up to operating temp then protection kicks in for a fraction of a second while it cools a little and then it comes back to normal again and repeats. i think it means it's just operating normally. Also there's an undocumented feature with the Istick 40WTC - if you switch it off and hold the fire button and up button together for around 20 seconds then Ti mode is enabled.
