I tried sub-ohming for the first time on my kanger aero tank. I got it to read .5 but it wouldn't fire. I read that the VTR won't fire anything under .6 so I wasn't surprised. I got it to read .7 and it would fire but shorted out afterwards. After another coil rebuild. It read 1ohm. When I tried to fire it, it would fire but then the ohm reading started jumping all over the place like from 1 ohm to 2 to 3 then back down to under 1 ohm. The VTR was getting hot so I left it alone for a while but when I tried to fire it again, the light would come on but doesn't heat up the coil. I tried switching out the clearomizer with another one that was all stock and same thing happened. I used kanthal 24 to build a single coil with organic cotton. The VTR could still read the ohms but it just doesn't output any power. I tried swapping batteries as well. I think I fried something. Anyone have a similar experience or know what I can do to fix this issue? The last thing I want to do is buy a new unit.

Before I get preached on sub ohming and the safety hazards, I read afterwards how dangerous it is. Yes I know now how dangerous it could be because if I shorted this on a unregulated mod, I probably would've had bigger problems. Any help and advice is appreciated though.

The issue may depend on the version of the VTR you have. If the 510 wheel spins you have version 1, Version 2s 510 wheel is stationary. Version 1 has contact issues that you may have aggravated. They lose the ability to accurately detect the coils resistance making the power setting inoperable. Try setting to Voltage mode instead of wattage and see if it fires.
